I'm still BFing my 9mo old DD, and until last week really enjoying things. I'm now about five weeks pg and the nipple tingling and tenderness has started to kick in. It's making BFing a very unpleasant experience and I'm sooooooore.

Does anyone have any advice on what I can to to alleviate the tenderness. I tried some lansinoh the other day, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.

I was hoping to carry on feeding her as long as possible, but not sure I can take it if it gets any more painful.

Hi LardyMardy. I'm 9 weeks pregnant and still feeding my 2 year old (lots of times a day). Mine were absolute agony from about 5 weeks, but are not quite as bad now. Still painful, but nowhere near the levels of a few weeks ago.

I have another friend who is due in April and also feeding a 2 year old, and she found that it hurt lots for the first few weeks, then was fine during second trimester, and is now hurting a bit again in 3rd trimester.

Hang in there for a few weeks and see how you go.

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 01/03/2008 21:48

lol determination, I knew you would link to the silverettes . I'm going to get some as I'm sure I'll need them after the baby is born.

That's good news mumofdjandp. Did you carry on through your pregnancy and tandem feed?

and if you do tandem feed; do you avoid all the nipple trauma when the baby is newborn?

My DH is very supportive of my BFing, but I'm not sure how my family would react to me tandem feeding. Not sure I have the strength of character to do it either.

thanks cantsleep. I'll hang in for a few more weeks. I always imagined I'd feed her for as long as possible so this has thrown me off kilter a bit.

i was still bfing dd1 when i got pg and i too had that horrid nipple pain - and stupidly didn;t try the silverette, didn't think of them as my nipples weren't actually damaged. However, dd1 was 2 years anyway and selfweaned shortly afterwards.

BabiesEverywhere · 01/03/2008 21:52

I had a slight amount of discomfort for a ew weeks around 6/7 weeks pregnant but it went away again. I am taking much more care of my 18 month old DD latch, rather than letting her attach herself but touch wood everything is alright at the moment (about 17 weeks pregnant)

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 01/03/2008 22:06

I feel like DD is losing interest, but she is teething at the minute as well and that affects how she feeds anyway.

The silverette are worth a go though.

i am still bf my year old son and 8 weeks pregnant but am considering giving it up as it is uncomfortable and i no longer enjoy it, esp as he latches on then will not latch off even if he falls asleep so i cant move and even now it is uncomfortable lying in one position!! will it subside? my nips are tender and it feels as if he is biting when i know he is not!!

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 01/03/2008 22:13

bethoo that's kind of how I feel as well, and your description of it fits too. I thought she was biting me last week as well.

Replies on here suggest it will pass, be OK for a bit and then get worse again.

I suppose following the pattern of boob discomfort in pregnancy anyway. I'd like to get to at least a year, so only another three months really.

Daisy - yes i have reached my year goal so any more is a bonus. thing is whenever my boobs are on show say jsut out the bath he crawls over mouth open and just glings himself onto me! bad enough that he fidgets, even trying to stand with my boob still in his mouth!!! i may stop and then when/if baby is born and he wants to let him start feeding again!

mumofdjandp · 01/03/2008 22:17

It will defo pass guys dont give up unless you are ready of course I nearly did and I would have regretted it

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 01/03/2008 22:18

lol bethoo . DD has just started to pull my tops down when she wants feeding, and she sticks her tongue out whenever she sees my boobs unleashed as it were

Bumper are you pregnant
(sorry for hijack, congratulations LMDB!)

BabiesEverywhere · 01/03/2008 22:32

It is cute when they ask demands to nurse.

I find it really cute, when my DD climbs into my lap and throws herself down into nursing position with a big smile on her face, signing milk

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 01/03/2008 22:39

thanks SPB . Not exactly planned, but not exactly prevented. I'm getting used to the idea and looking forward to getting a new car to fit three car seats (the lengths some people will go to eh?)

bumper was referring to asking me about tandem feeding on our PN thread......she isn't PG (unless there's something she's not telling us )

Hope you get the soreness sorted out

BumperliciousNeedsaGlassofWine · 02/03/2008 09:59

God no stealth! I'm still trying to get over the trauma of the last one!

I was asking daisy if she was tandem nursing on our postnatal thread!
