My almost 11 week old baby missed her 8pm feed and usually has more milk around this time but isn’t interested either when I say she missed her feed I don’t mean she’s gone without milk as she’s had her top ups but she usually always has top ups between feeds but still drinks her actual feeds on her usual times but tonight no interest?? let me tell u guys what she drank today and u can tell me if it’s ok she’s 12lb

4am 5oz
8am-9am 5 or 6 oz I can’t remember
10am 2oz
12pm 5oz
3:30pm 6oz
4pm 2oz
4:40pm 1oz
5pm 2oz
9pm 1oz
11pm 2.5oz

the feeds she had at 9 and 11 I don’t really class as her actual feeds just her top ups which she usually always has and still drinks her actual feeds of 5-6oz but tonight no interest

If it makes you feel more chill just remember when breast feeding you have no idea what they drink

cyncope · 26/07/2023 23:39

You'd expect a 12lb baby to drink about 30oz a day (weight in lb x2.5) so in terms of volume she's doing fine.

Not sure what you mean about feeds and top ups though?

At that age I'd just offer a feed every 3 hours, say you offer 5oz at 8, 11, 2, 5, 8 and 11pm? Easy to manage and make bottles up safely than offering an oz or two every hour.

Ostryga · 26/07/2023 23:41

Just feed her on demand! Don’t worry about ozs etc. just watch for her feeding cues and when she displays them feed her.

Feeding cues are bringing hands to mouth, rooting, sucking lips, and then when she’s about to kick off about hunger she’ll probably fling her arms about.

Honestly babies don’t understand feeding schedules, the best thing you can do for her is to feed her when she needs it, not when you think you should,

@cyncope what i mean about the top ups is usually she has 5-6oz every 4hrs that’s been her schedule since she was about 2 weeks old and she was like clock work, for the last 2 weeks tho she has been having what I call “top ups” in between her feeds usually 2-3oz in between I don’t class these as her main bottles of the day tho because she only drinks a little bud with her main bottles she drinks 5-6oz her main bottles are usually 4am 6-7am 8-9am 12pm 4pm 8pm 12am in between those times is when she drinks her top ups or mini feeds as her dad calls them

Why are you doing top ups? Is she back at her birth weight and an ok weight? If she's hungry she's let you know and as long as she has wet nappies she's hydrated.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 27/07/2023 09:13

When my baby was 12lb I was doing 5 feeds a day (7, 11, 3,7,11) I was doing 6 (including 4am) feed before that but he started sleeping through the night. He started not wanting to be woken up at 11pm I've recently (5months) dropped the 11pm feed and still do 5 feeds but every 3 hours not every 4, so that he gets all his calories in him in the day time and has less need to wake at night (although he sometimes still does for a little socialize it's rare!)

Lollibert · 27/07/2023 11:40

@Unexpectedlysinglemum how many oz per feed?

OP posts:
Lollibert · 27/07/2023 17:13

@Unexpectedlysinglemum I do top
uos because she gets hungry between feeds but not hungry enough to drink her usual amounts xx

I'd maybe try 3 hourly feeds rather than 4 hourly + top ups.
So 7, 10, 1, 4, 7 in the day and then a last feed before you go to bed 10/11pm.
She may still need a feed at 3/4am, but try to keep that a small one and that will be the first one you reduce and drop.
