Should I give water to my DS?

I've just switched my 4.5 month old DS to 3 bottles in the day (at 10am, 1pm and 4pm) in preparation for going back to work. He's having Aptamil. And I'm breastfeeding him at 7am and at around 7:30pm when he goes to bed. Should I be giving him water in between or is he getting enough liquid? There doesn't seem to be that much time between feeds anyway as he is having milk every three hours during the day.

I used to offer my DS cooled boiled water in between feeds and he used to love it although didn't always have a lot. No harm in offering it to your DS.

I never gave my bottle fed ds extra water till he started on solids at 5 1/2 months and then he had a little in a beaker along with his meals. They dont need extra unless it is hot, they are constipated or have started solids.

Thanks Seona and mishymoo. I've given him some cooled boiled water in a bottle just to see if he'll take it and he had a bit but just seen health visitor at my breastfeeding clinic and she said no unless constipated.

I offer water a couple of times a day (DS is is bottlefed and has 7 x 7oz bottles a day!!) and sometimes he takes them, sometimes he doesn't.

HV pointed out that when it's very cold hte central heating is on more and they get more thirtsy...

Not harm in trying it.
