My 9 month old won't take a bottle at all, and is still feeding 5 times a day, despite stuffing himself at meals. I go back to work in 2 1/2 months and I'm really worried about what will happen when he starts nursery. I've got no idea how to get him to take a bottle and don;t want to leave it to the last minute and make going to nursery even more stressful. Any ideas?

i wouldn't bother with a bottle at all. will he drink out of a beaker?

MadamePlatypus · 24/02/2008 21:12

I think that at 11 months he should be fine with a cup. What hours will he be doing a nursery?

All day, three days a week, hence my fear, I'm happy to keep up the BF in the morning and evening, but its not going to be possible during the day sadly.

my dc were all bf until past 1yo, none would have a bottle, they gagged on it and got really distressed. we went straight to cups, the tommy tippee ones were the biggest success (still are, 2yo won't part with hers) as mad as it sounds, he may not take them with you around as he is not daft and knows you've got "the goods" but try leaving him with friend or relative and see what happens.
Another odd thing was that my lot liked their milk very warm when given it in a cup. no idea why, but just another trick to have in mind.

DS went to nursery when he was about a year (which your DS will be, all but) and he has never taken a bottle - he doesn't really like cow's milk either.

He was fine - at that age they can have juice/water from a cup and should be fine with bfs morning and evening.

LL I don't think that they desp need to have bf more than morning and evening [but have to admit that my dc made the most of the 'evening' bit and had a huge boob-binge]
normal meals and drinks will be fine at his age, and if you want to bf more on your days off your body will adjust, otherwise if you don't, then do what you usually do on work-days IYSWIM. either way, just do what works for you and him, there are no rules or rights and wrongs.
Good luck!!
