help lol my son wants to breast feed all night long why

my son is 6 months old and all night long he just wants to feed and im so tired im new to the breast feding thing as i bottol fed m last 2 nd they was sleeping allnight at hi stage he is a big boy and weighs 19lbs 12oz so i can see why he would feed a lot he is also on solids to how can i stop him from wnting to feed all night long or shoud i change him on to fomula can any one help please

has he always done this? is it possible he's teething and therefore comfort sucking? DD went from one or two feeds a night to wanting almost constant sucking and it was teeth. How is he feeding in the day? Is he feeding well? The other problem we've had is DD getting very distracted by other things in the day and so not feeding enough and then needing lots in the evening or night. I've been staying home alot to try and stop her getting over excited and distracted by other things. Apart from that no ideas really as having similar problems at the mo - but bumping this for you and perhaps others will come along who can help? All the best - still very young and it will pass but I know how exhausting it can be - good luck.

It's comfort suckling or possibly you do not give enough milk..try a yield test, if you can express the recommended amount then it is comfort sucking and you have to be firm and remove them after a certain time. Mine hung on as long as poss but after 45 mins I detached them.
For night feeds I gave expressed milk in a bottle, they were hungry, took it and downed it quickly and went back to sleep. I also made sure the light was very low so DC never really woke up...it was just a snack stop, not even a cuddle really just straight back in the cot. That way DC never got used to big night time cuddles and did not even bother waking after a few months.

Tracey Hogg "the baby whisperer" has a technique she calls "tanking them up" to solve the problem of hunger feeding as at 6 months they should be able to get through the night...try what she says, she advocates a top up about 10pm I recall to get them through the night.
If DC wakes again or cries for boob, then get DH to go in. DC worked out if DH walked in then milk was off the menu. Babies are bright and will soon work out who is dispensing the drinks and at what time.

IMO it is comfort suckling, DD used to do this until I got firm with her (at 6 months) I left her in her cot and didn't get her out at all during the night, she went ballistoc at first but I held firm and just gave verbal comfort, after 3 nights she quickly learned that it wasn't worth waking up and has slept 12 hours a night ever since.

thanks ladys for all ur coments i will try sum of ur ides it wont hurt as i have a 7 year old a a3 year olds to runa round after lol so any thing will be worth a try thanks xx

Miggsie, whatever it is about it certsainly isn't about Kee not having enough milk.Milk supply adjusts so that the more a baby feeds, the more milk is produced.
Very simple and eficient.
