hiya all!!
the lowdown quickly(cant believe its 5 in the morning!!)is that my son suffers from really bad wind and colic.infacol doesnt do anything and after advice thought colief might work(have tried everything else non-medical),
im bf and have tried hand expressing(cant get anything though!)and dont really want to give him the bottle just yet(but needs must perhaps if this is wrong...).A while ago on here im sure i read that u could put colief drops on ur nipples and that would be ok?colief instructions say that it cant be given to baby directly...but is this ok???
i just really cant find the thread and just want to make sure that i read the right thing...so nay advice would be gratefully received Thank you!!

Try calling the manufacturers of colief, NewMama.

I have looked at this in the past, and I remain unconvinced by colief for breastfed babies....but even if it does work, I can't think it would work at all by putting it on your nipples, as my understanding is that it needs time to work on the lactose in the milk, which is why you can't give it direct.

I used to start bf'ding and then pull DS1 off, quickly hand express into a spoon which had the drops already on them, pour them into his mouth and carry on.

It worked well for me.

If you wait until the milk has started to flow it will be easier to hand express, and you only need a tiny bit.

I expressed a little milk before the feed into a sterilised bottle lid, added the colief, then fed it to DS using an old sterilised infacol dropper.

Colief didn't make a difference (cranial osteopathy did) so I still have 3/4 of a bottle of the stuff if anyone wants it. Email me on elliethackray (at) googlemail (dot) com if you're interested

thank you guys~es!!i didnt put it on my nipples in the end.
at the mo im expressing a bit through a handpump, adding the drops onto a spoon then onto a syringe(goes everywhere when its just on the spoon)...a bit more effort than just bf i tell you!!a lot more planning!!!
thanks for the offer of colief naetha...but still not sure about this colief.we already have some for ds but at the moment colief works sometimes but not others not quite sure what to make of that...
might have to check out this craniel osteopathy i think!
thanks again all...

also is it def colic and not acidic (silent) reflux makes them scream, not sleep and very windy

NewMamaMia · 26/02/2008 22:34

i asked the doc that bit she said nope as ds is gaining weight and isnt sick i thort it might be reflux because i can almost hear sick come up but it doesnt come out....ds is screaming as we speak

with silent reflux they are not sick at all, gaiin weight etc etc - just the acid seeps up and burns and hurts them like hell!!!! Usually a few days of taking infant gaviscon will either improve the situation (and therefore imply that it is acidic reflux) or do nothing in which case it is unlikely to silent reflux.

Some babies have very severe acidic reflux and gaviscon helps but not enough in which case I believe they use heavy duty antacids.

when dd possetted immediately after feeding it was always instantly really curdled and stinky which I think was because of the high acid levels in her tummy.

NewMamaMia · 26/02/2008 23:19

gosh cargirl ur so quick at replying
hmmmmm i think im going to have to go bk 2 the drs and be firmer because ds is suffering...
like u,when he is sick it is curdled and stinky.also he seems to have a really sicky smelling breathe alot of the time.one min hes fine after feeding,n the next thing i know he contorts gis face, screams the house down and nothing seems to stop it.very fustrating.
