She was great. She looked at Callum's growth chart and said that even without the formula his weigh was fine, he was following the 0.4th line. She checked his latch amd it was wrong on the left but fine on the right. She said to ditch the formula. I am just gutted that I wasn't referred to her months ago before we gave into the formula.

Oh SGK!
I'm glad you got to see her, but how frustrating, you could have used her support against the pressure months ago.

Don't beat yourself up about the decisions you've made. Callum is doing great now, isn't he?

What do you intend to do now, re the formula?

NorthernLurker · 20/02/2008 17:22

Don't beat yourself up looking back - you've done wonderfully - and when you consider what opposition you ran into that's nothing short of miraculous. Really pleased you've got this support anyway

A letter, sparkly, to the appropriate authorities, maybe?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/02/2008 17:23

Am glad things went well

Try not to dwell on the formula, you were doing what you thought was the best thing at the time.

SparklyDYSONGothKat · 20/02/2008 17:24

She said to stop the formula and exc. BF him till I have to wean him (i explained that I really wanted to exc. BF him and was upset about the formula) I asked what if he drops his weight again, and she said as long as he follows a line its fine, and that she will back me up, and has given me her number. She is writing back to the dietitian and telling her that he is fine and to basically leave me alone.

And she said that the reason he was born at such a good weight (4lb 8oz at 33 weeks) was because I had diabetics, and it would have affected his weight (when I told the SCBU nurse and the doctor that they insisted that it wasn't that )

How old is he now? Not long until 26 weeks and solids anyway. Babycarrot is PILING weight on now after practically grinding to a halt previously.

Weaning is fun, and we are still bf as much as before (hoping that the vast quantities of solids she is eating won't cause a decline in milk intake...)

SparklyDYSONGothKat · 20/02/2008 17:29

He is 21 weeks now, but I have been told to hold off weaning, which I am happy to do, because he is still unable to hold his own head (he is only 14+ weeks adjusted)

I thought about writing a letter to the head of whatever I would have to write to, but am not very good at writing letters.

the other thing she said was that i am tiny (5ft and weigh 7st 8) and my other 3 are all small (ds1 is a very small 10 yr old on the 0.4th, dd1 is 7 and between the 0.9th and the 25th, dd2 is 6 and is on the 0.9th)

if i was a first time mum, i think i would have been scared into giving up bf.

tell me oh wise ones!! How do I get Callum off the bottle now? I tried tonight and he refused to BF after 8pm, even though he was hungery, and had to give hhim the bottle which he happily took. I need help now..

Bump for you

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 21/02/2008 10:47

Oh, just had a thought myself.

Start off by substituting the formula for ebm. If he is happy with that, offer less ebm the next time and finish off with the breast (keep offering the breast after every bottle even if he turns his nose up at it.)

If he takes to the ebm followed by a bf, keep weaning the amount of ebm you offer him and hopefully he will feed more from you. Then eventually you may be able to wean him off the bottles.

This is just an idea I had, I am not a bfc or expert, so hopefully Tiktok may come along soon.

Good luck xx
