I'm about 6 weeks preg, and breastfeed 12 month old ds at morning and bedtime, and sometimes once during the day. Do I have to eat anything special/take any supplements... particulary cos I'm so exhausted??
it would be good to hear what you think..

no you just have to eat a balanced diet as usual. the only supplements would be folic acid as normal with any pg.

having said that, I am taking a multivit supplement with iron anyway because for the price of only folic acid I could get a supermarket brand multivit with iron and I am a cheapskate. My gp said that that was enough.

you would still be feeling exhausted at this stage esp with a toddler to chase after.

I know the feeling. I am about 9 wks with a bfing 2.10yo to chase around. I am still working on night weaning her.

this is the opinion of a mere mummy so if a more knowledgeable person comes along and blows me out the water then i completely understand.

agree with kiskidee - no need for anything else other than folic acid. Try and get a sleep during the day though.

If you don't already have it, get Hillary Flowers' Adventures in Tandem Feeding - even if you're not intending to tandem feed, it has lots of useful info about feeding while pregnant. Good luck!

I literally dream about sleeping, mears, which feels very strange I try to sleep during the day but ds has just dropped his morning nap so the afternoon one is my only chance to get anything done. I do work 3 days a week, and might have a chance of sneaking a nap there in my lunch break tho..

glad to hear it is just the folic acid. Been hearing horror stories from well meaning relatives about the high likelihood of me losing teeth.

Kiskidee, good luck with the night weaning.. we were kind of lucky in that I got the noro virus and couldn't feed ds at all for a night. And that was that. No more night feeds! So that's all you need, a lovely bug to wipe you out. The bonus is that I had no awareness at all of the crying....

Hillary Flowers. What a lovely name. I reckon I might still be doing bedtime feeds when bean arrives, bring on the tandem feeding I say! (gulp)

Hello all,
I am also 6 weeks pregnant and still bf my ds at night, he is 10.5 months old.
I too get very tired.
My ds is going through an extremely bad patch of teething so have had to hold off weaning bf for a while, but he is down to one or two (one before bed and one over night usually) he has other feeds but with a cup and formula.

I am just taking pregnacare and trying to eat a good diet, I havent been to doctor or midwife yet regarding new pg so have no other advice yet.

Its just nice to talk to other people in my position.

I am 15 weeks pregnant and still nursing my 17 month old DD. I found the tiredness has lifted and the tender nipples has gone away and 'touch wood' things seem to be going well at the moment.

phlossie · 16/02/2008 20:34

I did 1 year old and preg thing, only I couldn't keep up breastfeeding too - mainly because I had such bad morning sickness. Luckily ds realised milk came out of his tommie tippee cup much more easily, so weaning was very easy.
The first 3 months was tough, the rest of the preg was a sinch. Forget getting stuff done and SLEEP, Spink! You won't be able to when baby comes.
When I was preg with dd, loads of mums of two told me horror stories - don't listen - it is tiring, but it's also wonderful and it's the perfect age gap. DS was two yesterday, and DD is 4.5 months and they're just starting to interact - they're lovely.
Good luck to you all.
