Anyone got a spare vent for the Avent pump?

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 14/02/2008 10:01

My tossing pump keeps breaking! The vent (the little rubber thing that goes in the hole) keeps popping through causing the suction to break meaning I have to take the shagging thing apart getting milk everywhere grrr!

Anyway, this happened back when I first had the pump and I emailed avent. They emailed me back asking me to call them and when I did their computers were down so they wanted me to call back another day. DH found the spare vent so I never bothered (stupidly). So now this vent has gone (I dunno what happens, maybe they shrink in the sterilizer).

I am away at the moment and only have my mobile so I'm not using that to call them, and buy the time I get home and get around to calling them and they do anything goodness knows how long that will take so to cut a long story short does anyone have a spare vent I could have/purchase/exchange for chocolate?! If you need it back I can send a replacement from avent when I get hold of them. But I express at least once a day and am having to take the pump apart at least for times each session and it's driving me crazy!

Emailed you

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 14/02/2008 13:13

Stealth, thanks for the offer, manolia has emailed and is sending me one, it's very kind of you though. DH is impressed with the power and generosity of mnet!

I feel a strong complaint to Avent coming on. DH thinks I am very indignant but I hate products that don't come up to scratch!

are you absolutely certain as I'm going to the post office in 5 mins anyway - will check just befre I go

magHOOVERlia74 · 14/02/2008 17:55

I can't find it!!!! Have been searching all afternoon.
I am sooooo sorry feel bad now as stealth could have posted it

PillockOfTheCommunity · 14/02/2008 18:01

I'll send SPB back this way

I found it only popped through if I had it positioned wrong and the suction was increased, are you using the cushion?

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 14/02/2008 18:19

No worries magnolia, I'll catch stealth somewhere.

Thanks POTC. Not sure what you mean by cushion? I use it every day and it is normally fine, but my last one did this and I am fairly sure that it shrinks as once I started using the spare it was fine again. It's not a big deal just fricking annoying!

PillockOfTheCommunity · 14/02/2008 18:58

am now wondering if that was thr problem with mine, I had both on the go so it might have been when I had one in it did it and one not!

the cushion is the squidy bit that sits inside the pump where it goes on your breast. you can use it without, but i found if i did then the vent 'popped'

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 14/02/2008 19:32

Oh I know what you mean, I've never used it without before.

I'll email SPB and see if she would mind sending one anyway.

I'm here!! Just to check before I send it, it's the tiny circular thing that fits into the neck of the Avent manual pump?

StealthPolarBear · 14/02/2008 19:42

i can't use mine with the cushion - gets no milk! I use it without all the time and never had a problem popping out! (ooer)

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 14/02/2008 19:45

Yes that's it. are you sure you don't mind? If avent send me some spares I can send you one back.

Doh! I have spares!

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 14/02/2008 19:59

Typical! If only we had spent the afternoon talking about our experience of baby products instead of less interesting things like... ourselves

Stealth you are a legend! I got the vent today, haven't needed to use it yet but will let you know if it improves the situation. Thank you so much

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 17/02/2008 17:39

glad you got it, hope it improves things

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 18/02/2008 09:34

Ok, just spoke to avent and apparently the problem is that the breastmilk, especially if it is high in fat, coats the vent in a film which makes it slippery which is what is making it pop through the hole.

Apparently normal washing and sterilising isn't good enough, I should soak it in vinegar for 5 mins. Does this sound plausible? I'm a bit

They are sending me some new ones anyway. StealthPB would you like me to send you one back?

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 18/02/2008 09:41

Vinegar I'd be a bit worried about the acid damaging it. Still, if that's what they recommend!
No need to send anything back thanks, I've only ever used one (and still have a spare), I must produce skimmed milk
