Have got bad toothache and need a root canal (YIKES!!) but dentist can't fit me in until April 16th !!!! Said I'll have to take painkillers until then! But as I'm bfing I'm wondering if it's safe to take paracetamol or, if pain gets really bad, ibuprofen, for such a long time whilst bfing.

As far as I know it is ok. I took paraceamol regularly for back pain for the whole 8 months of bf dd1 on gps advice. I wish I'd known you could take ibuprofen too then.

allowed, for both, certainly for weeks at a time, I was prescribed them to keep taking after em c/section until pain was copeable-with, in my case that was about 3 weeks but I wasn't given a time limit.

I'd check with a gp/midwife if you want to be sure

BUT I would try and get emergency treatment, not cos of bf but my experience of ending up very very unwell with an abscess fom leaving treatment too long when I needed root canal.

it really was horrible, unbelievable pain, vomiting, fainting, the lot... prob best avoided if poss.

Dental hosp will usually see you for emergency appt?

in the maentime, take ibuprofen and paracetomal at same time. makes both more effective (hospitals advice again and safe while bf.) just stick within max dosage.

sending hugs and sympathy xx
