How old is he? They do slow down so this is entirely in the range of normal.

How old is he? If very young (under 8 weeks) this may be a problem. If he's older, this may be normal, and not a problem.

DS2 once went two weeks without pooing (he was 8-10 weeks at the time). We were worried but he was fine. When he eventually went it was much bigger than usual but still liquid and yellow. He was bf btw.

At that age it's ok - breastfed babies can go a good few days (or more) without pooing. Below 6 weeks it's usually a sign of poor attachment when feeding.

If you are concerned you can keep trying with the tummy massage/leg cycling. But it's not really a problem unless he is very uncomfortable. Be prepared for an explosion when it does happen!

NotQuiteCockney · 07/02/2008 11:13

Yeah, he's almost certainly fine - if your instincts tell you he's otherwise fine, then you've just got an efficient child who digests most of the milk.

Do watch out for the poo when it comes, though, it may be a bit ... large ...

dd did this a few times. i even phoned health visitor she told me to give her some warm boiled water if i wished, but that it is perectly normal. ( ive acctually got a lovely hv )

Lucy10 · 07/02/2008 11:28

My DD goes through phases of pooing once every day and then sometimes only once every 3 days. She's almost 17 weeks

my dd1 (and now dd2 is doing the same) only pooed every 3 days - great on no poo days bring a change of clothes for the baby at all times!!!!!!

foxythesnowman · 07/02/2008 11:36

My DD at the same age used to only poo once a week. Be thankful!

LittleBottle · 07/02/2008 11:43

My DS can go up to 10 days between poos (he is BF). They're always a sight to behold when they do come though

LyraSilvertongue · 07/02/2008 11:47

Oh, don't do the prune juice thing. That will be for constipation and it's extremely unlikely your baby is constipated is he's exclusively bf. He's just digesting and absorbing his milk efficiently and there's not much waste.
