How to stay awake during night feed

Baby is 5 weeks and although I’ve found breastfeeding a huge struggle I’m really trying to persevere because of all the benefits. I am combi feeding but try to stick with just breast for his 2am\3am feed. The problem is I find it impossible to stay awake during his feed. Normally he will go on one breast then swap to the other. Before I know it I’m awaking up at 5am/6am with him stirring having been fast asleep either across my chest or in the rugby ball position. Im so worried about smothering him in sleep but I genuinely can’t keep my eyes open for the feed. It doesn’t help that he doesn’t seem to like his Moses basket so there’s no motivation for me t9 get him back in there as he does not settle.
any advice on what I can do? (Husband sleeps in spare room most nights so isn’t next to me to nudge me awake, etc).

Find a game on your phone to play. That's what kept me awake

I used to look on my phone aswell.
I also used to sit on the bottom of the bed.

Physically move to somewhere you won't drop off? Somewhere a little less comfortable, rather than just propped up on pillows.

Have loads of water before bed so you're desperate for a wee? And don't go to the loo until the feed has finished? Brutal idea. I feed overnight (baby is much older) and when I need the loo it's torture to feed, but certainly keeps me alert!!

I used to sit on the bedroom floor with my back against the wall. It was comfy enough for a night feed but not that comfy that I would nod off!

I ate constantly. Mainly chocolate.

Oh I also sat on the edge of the bed in the middle. Had pillows to support my arm but no way could I have fallen asleep

Following with interest to try and prevent this when DC2 arrives!

I argue with people on Mumsnet to keep myself awake. Write a lot of to do lists and do phone shopping. Keep a little LED light on and sit up; also read on my kindle.

Mostly though practice lying down feeding and get a sidecar crib so you can just doze through the feed and not need to move the baby or resettle.

If you're in need of game recommendations OP I used to play 'I love Hue', colour puzzle game

Game on phone, watch a show maybe, or safely co sleep so at least if you dose off you are in a safe position

Read the safe cosleeping guidance and feed in side lying position? So when you inevitably fall asleep baby is on a flat surface away from bedding etc.
