Worried about breast milk supply

My 3.5 month old is almost exclusively breastfed. We've recently changed his routine a little with some gentle sleep training, and it's working really well.

Before he was up every sodding 2 hours and I'd breastfeed him back to sleep. Now, after just 3 days in the programme, he's sleeping much longer periods, sometimes through the night. That's brilliant obviously but I'm no worried about my supply.

I try to pump throughout the day so DH can give him a feed later on but I've can't pump much anymore. Usually it's pouring out of me but today I could only pump a couple of ounces and that was after much effort.

Really worried the new routine is affecting my supply. I know it's a supply and demand system but I still want to be able to pump... it's worried me all day. Any advice? 😔

Firstly, how much you pump is absolutely no reflection on how much you produce. Baby will be much more efficient at getting the milk than any pump.

Secondly stress can seriously inhibit how much milk you produce. Apparently you get get more by sticking a baby sock over the bottle and watching tv/reading a book.

And is it really worth doing all that pumping just so that DH can give a bottle? It sounds like a lot of hard work and worry for you. Can't he do other things, like bathtime or make dinner?

Thanks for your reply, DH gives him a feed when I'm unable to while out for an hour or two. Good to know pumping isn't a reflection on my supply, just find it weird that I was able to pump loads and now can't.

My breasts don't feel full at any point anymore either like they used to, even after 10 hours (longest sleep stretch so far).

But your body will be much lies in tune with what your baby takes by now, that could be why you're not producing the same quantity.
