Is there a silly poll this time or will they just be calling us freakoids without any opportunties for interactivity?

policywonk · 02/02/2008 12:53

oh god this is a mis-spellings thread

'opportunty' - I quite like that.

Jacanne · 02/02/2008 12:58

I don't know - will have to keep our eyes open - perhaps we've put them off polls.

Apparently there is going to be a woman on who is still BF her 4 year old and tandem feeding a younger one. Supposed to be discussing it with Dr Hilary who, I'm told, believes that EBF is all for the mother's benefit.

If only someone had predicted this like here for example

ReverseThePolarity · 02/02/2008 13:13

Waves to Jacanne from all the way over on FB

Jacanne · 02/02/2008 13:18

Waves back at RTP

Will there be a phone-in/texts? Never watch this shite but am prepared to make an exception.

Jacanne · 02/02/2008 13:47

I don't know - am sourcing this info 4th hand from someone who's LLL Leader knows the lady who's going to be on it. If that makes sense

OP posts:
policywonk · 02/02/2008 13:48

OK, I am following you I think...

Will try to remember to watch it and be hovering over my mobile just in case we are allowed to participate in any way.

Jacanne · 02/02/2008 17:19

Update - my source had flawed info - it's on Wednesday - sorry Wouldn't want to subject anyone to an extra day of GMTV

chipmonkey · 02/02/2008 17:43

So, can you phone or text in? I'd love to have the opportunity to stick up for the poor "extreme" Mum!

ReverseThePolarity · 02/02/2008 19:48

I don't know if you can phone or text in, but the "extreme" Mum is also a proper bf expert (can't remember if she is a bfc or lactation consultant but she is something expert and very learned anyway) and has only agreed to do this after lots and lots and lots of consideration and discussion and is well aware of the way that GMTV could end up trying to make it look. I think she is going to try and stay off making it personal (i.e. not talk about how long she bf her kids) and stick to the facts and give lots of references.

And the other person, the anti-bf one is Dr Hilary Jones who thinks that the WHO advice is only for the developing world, and doesn't really think there's much benefit to bf over four months let alone 2 years. But he is GMTV's medical advisor so they're obviously very in with him so we shall see.

FlyHappy · 02/02/2008 23:51

Any of these sorts of pieces are one slanted. I ignore them as I just don't have enough patience to not start swearing at the tv. I didn't extend bf but what happened to balanced journalism?

gigglewitch · 02/02/2008 23:56

jacanne
we wouldn't want to watch any more GMTV than absolutely necessary - it's excruciating and best avoided

hunkermunker · 03/02/2008 00:01

I'll have to write something about extended bf for the blog. I'm sick of this "it's for the mother's benefit" and "if it's that important your child has bmilk, why don't you express" SHITE that's so readily believed by thick cocks seemingly well-educated people.

WriggleJiggle · 03/02/2008 13:34

Damm! I think I'm quite an 'extreme' person, who could list their hobbies as climbing, winter mountaineering, kayaking, caving, diving, snowboarding, skiing ....
I am also bf dd2.
I didn't realise somepeople combined the two. Now I feel inadequate.

kiskidee · 03/02/2008 13:46

the person going is a member of the ABM. she has been doing a lot of reading up on ebf. she is taking her 2yo but not her 4yo.

she has spoken by email and phone by two well known and respected advocates of bfing and ebfing.

I wish I could be in the studio audience to offer my support. will try to get dh to record it for me.

Tatties · 03/02/2008 14:01

I am going to try and remember to record this. It can be very frustrating to watch though when it is one-sided and there is just not the time (nor inclination) to cover things in depth and bust the myths...

sherazade · 03/02/2008 14:38

hi, pardon me i'm a bit thick, what's lk?
