18 week old baby struggling to feed

Previously taking good amounts of formula milk, now over last 5 days or so it has been a real struggle with a screaming baby every time the bottle is put near his mouth.

Generally a very happy baby, its feed time that things disintegrate at present!

He is now messing around, crying and generally not wanting his milk and it's a struggle to get him to take half of what he was taking previously. It's been like this for about 5 days now.

I am a bit worried that the drop in the amount of milk taken in a day. Also whether there is anything else wrong with him. His temp is fine and he is otherwise very happy playing etc etc.

Any help or suggestions for a Mumsnet Noob would be much appreciated before i go round the bend!

Has anything else changed in his routine recently? Is he still on milk alone or is he having solids?

No he is still just on milk just now. I was tempted to try him on solids when he was finishing all bottles of 240ml but now im reluctant to.

Yes would agree about being reluctant to start solids at present -there is no need to start yet in 18 week old who is happy with milk, reason I was asking was trying to think of things that may have caused him to want less milk. As long as he is drinking enough to give him wet nappies and he is happy and well in self I would just wait a while and see what happens. I have 2 boys and have noticed that their food/milk intake seems to up and down over periods of days. They seem to be hungry all the time and eat everything for a while then have a few days when they are not so bothered with eating. I think they tend to eat more during a growth spurt. Your baby's intake may go up again shortly when the next growth spurt comes along. If it seems to persist maybe just keep a check on his weight with your HV which could reassure you he is getting enough.
