Unhappy baby in the evening

My baby is 6days old and although we had a slow start to breast feeding as he wouldn't latch on, we have now mastered it and he is feeding well. He has managed to regain his birth weight which is great news. Sadly he is really grizzly on evening between 9pm -12.30am and we can't figure out whether this is colic or due to being hungry. He starts getting crotchety and kicking his legs, it looks a bit like colic but is this too early? My husband is convinced he is hungry and that we should add in a bottle feed of formula at night but I'm not convinced its hunger. He has been feeding 2hourly but I have changed this to every 2 1/2 - 3hrs as his weight is so good and doesn't appear to require more. He has feeds of 30mins and then falls asleep. What does anyone suggest?

I'm afraid that is just what they are like in the first few weeks. It's hard work and you just have to sit and feed them.

It is a difficult phase but it doesn't last long. Make sure your DH gets all your (very easy to get) meals and just be gentle with yourself. A bottle of formula will mess up your supply at this stage so try to hang in there.

Keep coming back on MN - there are some very knowledgable people on here re breastfeeding etc (I'm not one of them but have been where you are now and got through it!)

Hi there,

My little man is now 17 days old and although bottle fed and is feeding well and nearly going every 4 hours, and almost taking 3 oz every feed, he is the same of an evening.
He isnt pooing regular but doesnt appear to be bothered by it, and doesnt appear to be suffering with wind either, but after his evening feed he just doesnt want to settle, and sometimes get quite aggrevated.
I have just had to convince myself he will settle eventually once he learns the deference between night and day.
How is ur littlen through the night??
