My little boy is 16 months old and seems to be self weaning.

I offer him boob upon wake up and before naps so it's only twice a day. It's only once a day when he's at the childminder (3 days per week).

I'm happy he has made the decision and it's not my choice to stop but I'm now trying to figure out how much milk I should be offering him.

He has a bottle of cows milk before bed as Dad likes to feed him. Previously it was expressed milk but we switched around age 1.

What do you little ones similar age have please?

He does have milk with cereal and has yoghurt/cheese so I feel like he's getting plenty of calcium.

If he's having a bottle of milk and BFing once or twice a day I'd say that was enough.

BF babies at this age tend to take the same amount no matter how many times they feed.

Plus, if you were just offering Cow's Milk, they only need 300 mls a day and that can include the milk in things like cereal, rice pudding or fish pie Wink

My Ds was 2 when he stopped..

It was hard work probably by that age it was just naps bed and through the night ( didn't sleep through till 4 😴 )

I would drop the nap one so he can learn to self settle

DS self weaned at 12 months. I never replaced his milk. He’s not interested in formula or cows milk as a drink. Just has calcium in yoghurt, cheese and milk on his cereal.

Thanks for the replies. It's day two where he hasn't wanted to feed :-(

I spoke to the Health Visitor yesterday and she said they require 450-500ml per day. This can be made up from milk in cereal, cheese, yoghurts etc.

HV is incorrect I'm afraid. Current NHS guidelines are 300 ml of full fat cow's milk per day between 12 and 24 months.

My daughter self weaned at 17 months.

Since then she's had 2 cups of soya milk and soya milk on her weetabix.

They don't actually need milk after 1 so don't worry about doing anything extra.
