One boob more "fuller" than the other?

Morning everyone.

I am BF my DD who is 6 weeks. The last couple of days I have noticed that my left breast does not get as full as the right in between feeds. I make a point of making sure i distribute the feeds evening between both breasts, but my right breast is always alot fuller than the left. The left doesn't seem to leak any more when i'm feeding, but the right always does. Should i be doing something to bring the left back up to the size of the right? There is milk in there, as I fed DD on it this morning and had a squeeze too just to make sure lol.

Any ideas/thoughts would be great.

TIA!

Oh and sorry for the appalling English in the title lol.

Think this is quite normal. I exclusively expressed for ds for a while and got about twice as much out of the right breast as the left. I mentioned it to a nurse in SCBU and she said that if you are right-handed you normally get more milk out of the right side, something to do with having more muscle on that side? Don't know if that's utter nonsense though!

Thanx LAL. However one boob is really soft and the right is really hard. Surely that cant be right?

I was always lopsided. However I am right handed but it was always my left boob that was fuller. It became less pronounced as time went on.

Same here! It's even hard to tell that the left one is full, even when it is iyswim. The weight seems to be at the bottom of it like a sandbag (attractive non!) while the right one has fullness at the top as well.

Second baby and it is more pronounced than with the first.

You all have a beautiful mental picture of me now don't you

RGPargy · 20/01/2008 17:46

lol FA! My mental image must be just as bad - one flat empty boob, one full firm round boob

Hi RGPargy. I have noticed that my right boob gets fuller too! I can litrtally feel it filling up and getting harder when I am feeding my LO on the left side. Should be good for expressing I reckon, just had a go at that and DS had his first bottle - felt v.strange not breast feeding him !

RGPargy · 23/01/2008 09:45

Sarah - I think Ellie will be ok with a bottle because she has this medicine syringe thign with a teat attached to it specifically designed for babies and when i put her gripe water in there she really sucks it in! Hopefully she'll be ok with it, but i'm seriously not looking forward to when she has a bottle of EBM.

Hi RGPargy I am literally sitting here expressing and wondering the same thing as I can never get much out of one side, regardless of timing...

how is it going?

RGPargy · 23/01/2008 10:29

Its going well thanx. The lopsided look seems to have eased off a bit now thankfully. Perhaps i had a blockage somewhere in the bigger boob, making it look worse than what it was?...

I am now thinking that the milk supply is the same on both sides, but they just look different lol.

How are things with you?

I found it was all because of Mumsnet. When typing I use my right hand and ds3 was always at the left breast so it produced a lot more!

RGPargy · 23/01/2008 11:23

Well i never thought of that! That's probably why we all have lopsided boobs!

My left boob was slightly bigger during pg and I said to DH bet DC will prefer this side. DS did like it much better not sure if it had more milk, always assumed because I was more comfortable holding him that side anyway.

One side of our bodies is usually slightly bigger than the other - my left foot has always been bit bigger, so maybe boob always was too, I don't know??? hoping it's not significantly bigger when I finally stop feeding DS

Flllightattendant · 25/01/2008 07:17

I am still trying to work out why it is my right boob that is bigger when I type with my right hand...I always seem to feed with my right boob when at the computer.

Do you not support the baby's head with your knee, then?

Perhaps I am odd.

I have my right knee lifted and my right ankle on my left knee for support. Baby is sort of cradled in the triangle that creates.

When he's feeding I can use both hands to type. When he's mucking about I can only use one because I'm holding him with the left, so my typing is shit.

RGPargy · 25/01/2008 09:56

Blimey, FA!! You sound like a contortionist!!!

I cant type at all when baby is feeding - one arm to cradle her, the other hand is needed to make a breathing space in my boob for her little nose!!
