Teat size nightmare

So basically my 5 week old baby has always been a great eater, last week we changed him to size 2 teat because he was starting to get frustrated during feeds & was falling asleep and not finishing bottles, it all started really well but for the past few days he's been dribbling milk out, it's like 2 is too quick and 1 is too slow, spoke to the health visitor yesterday who said to stick with size 2 he's just a guzzler but it's really stressing me out feeding him, he starts dribbling milk so I pull it out and he cries, I try winding him and he's fidgeting and crying so I put him back on the teat and he starts spluttering and scrunching himself up and grunting while drinking the bottle but spilling it at the same time! What could it be? I'm using MAM bottles & he's formula fed. I feed him in an upright position.. his feeds this morning have been fine, his feed now is just crazy, it's like carnage 😂 I've just got a big bit of wind out of him so I'm thinking the scrunching and grunting was belly ache but the teat flow is my biggest issue xx

Are you paced feeding? So hold bottle horizontal so the teat isn't totally full and it requires him to put some effort in?

I would have thought 5 weeks was far too little for a size 2, they’re 3 months usually.

Do MAM do variflow teats.

Mam size 2's are for 2 months+ & he's 6 weeks in 2 days but he's a big boy. Was born 9lb 2, hasn't ever dropped any weight, taking 5-6oz's every 3 hours and currently weighs nearly 13lb so I can allow a few weeks grace haha

I know I'm reopening this old post but how did you get on? I'm having the exact same problem with my little boy, he's 6 weeks tomorrow. Has been falling asleep on the size 1's but dribbling on the 2's. I don't know which to stick with!

So sorry for the late reply I've only just seen this! Baby settled on size 2 teats after a few days, it just took a while for her to realise the difference haha but yeah it took a couple of days of dribbling out milk, I accompanied it with paced feeding and she finally settled and stopped doing it.. I also think her reflux settling with the medicine helped too x

Oh my god I'm losing my mind, I don't realise this was from 2022 about my son, I've had another baby since then who is a girl so that's why I've got so confused 😫 son was born 2022 and daughter born 2023 😂

But I've had the exact same issues with my daughter so that's why I was able to answer it this year 😂😂 she's 3 months now and was the exact same when she was younger
