How much water do you drink when BF?

Been struggling the last few days with headaches and tiredness. DH thinks it's dehydration as I am rubbish at drinking water and it's been hot.

However I've been really trying lately and am having just under 2 liters a day (albeit a couple of cups of coffee too which can dehydrate)

Would you say that's enough when BF a 9 month old who takes 5 or 6 big feeds a day?

I think it probably is. You could always add in some water rich foods like melon, broccoli, jelly or strawberries.

It sounds enough. Breastfeeding can really take it out of you.

With my first I was constantly thirsty and drank 3L a day, 1 of those being overnight. It was like someone hoovered my throat every time he latched on. My second I haven’t been anywhere near as thirsty.

I reckon I have at least 3 litres a day. Constantly drinking. Always make sure you have a drink by you all day long. Are you eating enough? That's important too!

The coffee isn't likely to have dehydrated you. Infact, studies have shown that moderate coffee intake can be as hydrating as drinking water.

So it sounds like you're probably drinking more than enough, but a lot depends on you personally and is relative to your normal intake. Are you drinking at least as much as you normally would?

I had a glass of water every time I fed.

Yeah, try and drink more if you can as well as moist foods like a PP suggested. I have never felt thirstier than when I was breastfeeding a hungry baby, and mine had dropped to only a couple of long feeds a day at that age so I can’t imagine 5-6 sessions without more water 😅
