breastfeeding and periods - or lack of!

I'm still bf DD (11 months) a lot - every 4 or so hours in the day and every couple of hours at night so I'm not surprised that my periods haven't returned yet. The thing is that for the last 3 months, I've had a couple of days of being sure that it's about to arrive, exactly at 4 wk intervals. I'm also showing a lot of signs of fertility mid month.

Is it possible to have a cycle but not have one IYSWIM? Is this a sign that things are coming back? With DS I got them back at 7 months even though I was feeding a lot.

someone will be along who knows more than me on this but I think your cycle can start to get things moving again without releasing an egg for the first month or two.

Am also at 11mo BF and no periods. (Except BF down to just a couple at night now, but still no sign!)

yep i think it is possible to ovulate and not have a period if you are bfeeding, i didnt get a period for over 18mths when feeding ds2 and then i had one that lasted 2days and then next month i was pregnant

pretty much the same thing happened again with ds3, no periods for almost two yrs i get one or two, very light periods, and voila preg again, baby due in 6wks

I also read the longer it takes, the more likely that first cycle is to be very fertile - don't know how much there is in that, but I'm clinging onto it in hope!

I'm bf 10 month old loads and no af yet, but I am definately getting the symptoms of a cycle back too.

thanks everyone - that's good to know. With DS I was desperate to get them back so we could TTC DD (only had 2 periods!). But this time we have no plans for another I could happily continue without them!
