Which formula brand did you choose and why?

...just wondered how those of us who ff came to choose the brand we did!

Eg. We use Aptamil cos that's what my sister used and I just copied her.

How did everyone else decide?

I sent DP to tesco and he came back with SMA.

flowerybeanbag · 11/01/2008 19:35

We made a decision based on availability it all the local places we might buy it from and went for SMA on that basis, also as it is available in 1 litre cartons which we use.

ScaryHairy · 11/01/2008 19:35

I copied my sister too

(She probably just used what was cheapest!)

Avizandum · 11/01/2008 19:35

SMA - but only because we had to have it prescribed (soya based)

I used SMA with my first dd as well....don't know why - maybe because they advertise their products so well....am glad though because I noticed that Tanya in Eastenders is using it and I thought "good, at least it must be a good formula to use!"

Avizandum · 11/01/2008 19:36

Grin Grin Grin

choufleur · 11/01/2008 19:37

SMA because i'd bought an emergency carton when breast feeding - just in case. and did use it one day. ds was ok with it so stuck to it.

LittleMissNorty · 11/01/2008 19:37

I use Farleys as I was told (don't know if its true) its the only one manufactured in the UK

OracleInaCoracle · 11/01/2008 19:37

sma because sil used it and i hadnt planned on ff so just used that

Chardonnay1966 · 11/01/2008 19:38

Ooh crikey Aviz! Been a big discussion on here about that....!

TheMuppetMuggle · 11/01/2008 19:38

i used cow & gate, as my DD couldn't keep SMA down.

bodiddly · 11/01/2008 19:39

Aptamil when I started mix feeding as the health centre discount it but then Omneo Comfort when I discovered my ds was allergic to it!

dd666 · 11/01/2008 19:41

cow and gate i couldnt decide then remembered my mom had used cow and gate for us so must be alright to still be going.

Avizandum · 11/01/2008 19:41

I know! I was on it.....I changed my name the other day as some posters had said that it was naff to have a name and numbers as your MN name and in any event fancied a change.

I was being silly.....

Chardonnay1966 · 11/01/2008 19:44

Oh phew! Thank gawd for that...

Is it really naff to have a name and number??? Chardonnay had already gone!!

i sent DP to sainsburys and he came back with Farley's. A completely random choice. After a couple of weeks we swapped to Aptamil because DD was a bit constipated and I'd read some threads on here saying Aptamil was one of the 2 easier to digest formulas. Can't remember what the other one was supposed to be.

Avizandum · 11/01/2008 20:03

Apparently....I was reading a thread the other day where someone was asking for help to come up with a new name and a few people had said that it was better to have a name without numbers and without the word mum' 'mummy' in etc...so I decided to have a complete change....have to say it is taking some time to get used to and I may decide to change back!

My 9 week old baby is constipated and has been on SMA (and some breast milk until about 10 days ago). I've been advised by one health visitor to change to Omneo Comfort (Cow and Gate) although another health visitor said to stick to one formula as a switch can confuse their digestive systems. HELP! Hate watching him writhe in pain, trying to push a poo out. Have tried water (won't take it).

chocolatespiders · 19/01/2008 11:44

i used farleys after reading a article about the others containing fish bones?

Jojay · 19/01/2008 11:45

Cow and Gate, cos it's what my friends used. Not very scientific........

Then changed to Hipp Organic cos it was cheaper and less packaging to throw away.

DS was fine on both.

Tangas · 19/01/2008 11:51

I used Aptamil because when DS was in the neo natal ward thats what they gave him, untill I could BF.
I thought that was the best to use because health professionals' were using it!
And like lennygrrl said it closest to breast milk.

LolaLadybird · 19/01/2008 21:33

Juliet42 - have you tried Aptamil Easy Digest? My DS is 8 wks and I'm tandem feeding, gradually moving towards ff. I chose the Easy Digest because it's recommended for colicy/windy babies - which DS is - but it also says it helps with softer stools. TBH, DS' stools are a little too soft (we regularly have leaky nappies) so I've just changed today to the regular Aptamil to see if it makes a difference, however it might help with the constipation.

joyfulspike · 19/01/2008 21:33

I used cow and gate, coz that's what my mum used

onepieceoflollipop · 19/01/2008 21:36

Anyone know why the Hipp Organic is cheaper in a lot of places - generally it is the other way round? i.e. organic more expensive?

mamamea · 20/01/2008 11:30

most people seem to use SMA, probably because of their illegal advertising
