6mo DS recovering from tummy bug - feeding every 3 hours day and night!

My poor little DS had the norovirus over New Year and is recovering ok although seems to have secondary lactose intolerance as a result of all the diarrhoea

I had him weighed on Tuesday and he's lost quite a lot of weight - gone down from 75th to 35th centile in the 5 weeks since I last had him weighed.

He's now having 5 or 6oz of formula every 3 hours throughout the day and night, so I think he's having between 40-46oz every 24 hours, which seems like an awful lot. I suppose he's just making the weight back up, but should I consider a hungry baby formula?

He's never slept through, the best has been about 5 and a half hours, but used to only wake around 3am for a feed then back to sleep until 7am. What with the illness, teething before Christmas, and now several feeds in the night, it's like having a newborn again and we're exhausted.

Anyone else experienced this after an illness? How long did it last?

He's not weaned yet as I wanted to do BLW which we'll start in the next few weeks I think. Does adding solids make a difference? Everything I've read says not to count on it helping with the sleep, but does it ever help? Help!

I would be inclined to stick to the milk for now, myself. His poor tummy's just getting over a bug so might be best to give him a chance to regain some weight and settle down before giving his system something new.

I know it's tough (I'm feeding my 5.5mo DS every 2-3 hours 24/7 ) but it won't be forever.

RotundAlbaLass - are you feeding that often after illness too? It is hard, but I know things will get better!

Not after illness, he's just a hungry so-and-so!

Admittedly some days he goes hours without feeding but he makes up for it at night. Last night 6.30, 7.30, 9, 11, 1.30, 3.30, 5.30 and 7.30 (approximately!).

You need to see me to believe how bad I look this morning
