Electric Steriliser - how to tell they work properly?

Hi
I am writing to see if their is a way of telling a steriliser still works OK. We have one that we bought just over 3 years ago for our Son and have kept it in the attic since he outgrew it, but we are a little paranoid as he was 6 weeks prem and suffered a lot of illness so we want to try and rule out everything for child No. 2.

Can anyone help?

have you still got the manual?? As long as the water is steaming hot fr as long as it says it takes then i would say it works.

Presumably you mean an electric steam steriliser? If you run it then once it has switched itsself off the lid should have lots of water droplets on it from the steam. If it doesn't then it isn't working. Washing items in hot soapy water is as if not more important than sterilising anyway.

Thanks, it gets to steam but not 100% sure how long it should steam for before switching off to ensure it sterilises as cant find instructions and Avent only have manuals for their current models on their websites.

Its the Electric Avent one with the silver button - no digital display and its 3 years 4 months old. It looks like the current Express model, but am fairly certain it should run for more than the current 8 minutes.

we have that one i think ours is about the same age and sounds the same.

Ours tuns in total for about 15 mins i think. It's just been switched on now so i'll let you know. Don't forget it depends on how much water is in it i think. I put in 80-90mls.

I'll get back to you.

Thanks NannyJo

It took 15 mins.
It's supposed to be the express steam steriliser too ( it has avent express on the unit itself)

As long as it is at steaming point for about 8 mins (which is what i thought it was supposed to be) i'm sure it would be fine though.

Thanks
