Going from 2 meals to 3 meals a day - weaning

Hi all

My DS will be 8 months in a few days time. His feeding currently looks like this -

7am - 7oz bottle
10am - Porridge made with 3oz formula plus fruit puree then sips of water
1pm - 7oz bottle
4pm - dinner, usually a blended meal followed by Greek Yoghurt and fruit puree
7pm - 7oz bottle

At what point should I be transitioning him to a 3rd meal at lunch time to replace his 1pm bottle? I'm aware that they still need a lot of their milk before they turn 1 so am conscious that he is on 3 bottles a day atm so quite nervous to drop him down to 2 bottles at the moment. I do offer milk after his meals but he's not interested. I was thinking of waiting another month before introducing lunch - does this sound about right?

I would maybe move the timings e.g. my dc had milk at 7am and then breakfast at 8am. Maybe then milk at 12pm and then lunch at 1pm. Dinner at whatever time you want and then Milk before bed

@dementedpixie yeah see I tried that before and because he was full from his milk he wouldn't take any of his solids an hour after a bottle 🙈

That sounds fine to me. 3 meals by 9 months is a good goal.

I think every baby is different. DS has been having 3 meals since fairly early in the weaning process and is now 8mo. I try not to be too strict with timings (and the rhythm changes weekly) the pattern currently looks like:
Wake (around 6): milk
730-8: breakfast (usually 1-2 weetabix)
Noon: lunch
330-4: milk
5-530: tea
630: milk before bed at 7pm (he usually doesn’t want much).
For lunch/tea I tend to do one BLW and one mashed/purée depending on what suits that day. DS doesn’t have teeth so he often gets frustrated doing it himself when he’s tired. Followed by fruit if he’s still hungry.
If he’s showing signs of hunger I offer him milk as I am BF. Today he’s not been himself so I offered milk at 945 which he wanted. When I started I would offer milk after every meal.

I’d do bottle upon waking, breakfast at 8-9 (you might need to play with timings to see when he’s ready to eat but aim to get it much earlier than 10), lunch at 12, milk around 3 when they wake from their nap, dinner at about 5/5.30, milk again at bedtime.
