Trouble feeding 12 week old!!

Hi, so first time posting on here but I’m at my wits end! I have a dd 12 weeks old & she refuses to feed. She will push the teat round with her tongue, wriggle round & sometimes scream when I’m trying to feed her. She’s on lanzoprazol & has carobel in her formula as she has suspected silent reflux! I feed her upright in a sling & always keep her upright for 15-30 mins after her feed. I feel like she’s just not interested in food, she’s very alert & often wants to nosey around whilst feeding like she’s getting distracted. She has 1-2 oz at a time & will refuse anymore. I wouldn’t be too bothered but she has gone down from the 75th percentile to just above the 9th which is a huge drop! Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

I have also tried different teats & she’s currently using number 2 tommee tippee.

Would a different bottle help? The tommee tippee teats are round, the MAM ones are flat.

That is a big drop, can you put one of those breastfeeding necklaces on so she has something to concentrate on/fiddle with.

Thank you for your reply! The necklace is a great idea I’ll try that, I have ordered some of the dr brown bottles as I’ve heard good reviews but ill give the MAM ones a go if there’s still no change.

I’ll add she’ll only take 15-17oz a day no matter how many times I offer her the bottle, even if she’s gone 5 hours through the night she’ll still only take 1-2oz, fingers crossed a different bottle will help!

The TT bottles are crap IME, agree with PP's advice of mam, particularly the anti colic bottle. I'd also go for the slowest flow you can

Get rid of the carobel. We had similar issues and it turns out my baby is intolerant to it.

Leisle2022 · 24/03/2022 14:31

Thanks for your advice, I’ve got the MAM anti colic bottles so I’ll give them a go when she next wants a feed!

I don’t put loads of carobel in to be honest just enough to thicken it a little & I don’t think it’s that as she doesn’t seem in pain anymore just like she’s not bothered about food at al, so strange.

Have you had her assessed by a feeding expert? A tongue tie can affect an efficient suck for example. Do you have a health visitor who can advise you in real life?

Mine was similar. The perfect prep machine didn’t make it warm enough so by the time we got to the end she would turn her nose up.

Try changing the temp of the milk.

Dr brown bottles are very good in my opinion.

Leisle2022 · 24/03/2022 20:55

Yeah we’ve had her checked for tongue tie & she doesn’t have it.

She will take the bottle at room temp so not sure that’s it.

Thank you so much for all your advice though, she’s had 3oz pretty much on her last 3 feeds using the MAM bottles so might have been as simple as switching up the bottles! Like I said she normally takes 1-2 & that’s normally a chore, she seems so much happier with these bottles so thanks again 😊
