8 month old DD not very interested in food

Hi all

I hope I'm posting this in the right section!

We started introducing solids to 8 month old DD at 6 months and it's all been very hit and miss. She's had odd days where she wolfs down lots of food and we think she's getting the hang of it, but more often than not she only really seems interested in breastfeeding. She's had one cold after another, which won't have helped.

I wondered if I post a rough outline of feeds etc, could anyone tell me if I'm doing it all wrong? At the moment I'm offering breastfeed first and solids about an hour later, as I think I read somewhere not to offer food first until about 9 months. But that could be completely the wrong approach!

So our days are very roughly:

7am - BNF on waking
8am - breakfast (which DD never touches)
9.30 - 11am - nap
11am - BF on waking
12ish - lunch
1.30 - 3pm - nap
3pm - BF on waking
4.30pm - tea
6ish - BF before bed
6/6.30pm - bed
10pm - dream feed (I had dropped this, but DD has now decided she still needs it!)

Obviously some days the naps don't go remotely according to plan so things may move about, but generally I do milk before food.

Thanks so much for any advice. Just panicking slightly about going back to work in a few months and DD having no choice but to eat food instead of BF during the day Confused

Hello! Your DD sounds very similar to mine at the same age. She wasn’t very interested in food and would only ingest tiny amounts. However, she improved month by month as her eating skills got better and she got more teeth. At 11M she still varies each day, but is more than capable of demolishing toast, babybels, half a banana etc. if she feels like it. It’s only recently that she seems to enjoy food as filling her tummy rather than just a new toy.

I was worried she wasn’t eating much so one tip I was given was to find out some favourite foods and always have that on hand when trying something new. That way if DD rejected something I could offer some yogurt/banana/applesauce afterwards to reassure me that she wasn’t going hungry. Are there foods your DD enjoys? That can make meal times more fun and less stressful for you both.

Is your DD still growing and thriving? I took DD to be weighed as a one-off which gave me further reassurance that she was getting enough.

It sounds like you’re doing great, good luck!
