Express just a small amount untill it becomes comftable for you and do this as nessasary untill you dont need to at all, not expressing at all can cause infections which can make you very poorly

You do need to express or you run the risk of mastitis.

Just express off enough to keep you comfortable (keep the milk and give to ds) I found it took about 3 weeks for my boobs to settle when I weaned, but Dd was 2.5 so it may take a little longer.

If you stop cold turkey of course they're uncomfortable, they've gone from regular feeding to zero with no warning. You have to express enough for comfort, that's not the same as expressing enough to maintain supply. It'll naturally dwindle, but it takes time.

I suffered from this many years ago when mine were little. A warm bath to cover body and gentle massage used to be enough to release small amount of milk and relieve this problem. I found you'll stop producing milk in a few weeks.
