10 day old ds suddenly sucking REALLY hard and has bruised my nipples

He has had a good latch from birth and have had no pain feeding him until now but the last day or so he has turned into a mini hoover and both my nipples are bruised. Have tried taking him off and latching him on again but this seems to make him suck even more frantically when he goes back on. Any other ideas of what I can try?
Am I right that 10 days is usually growth spurt time so it could just be a phase as he tries to up my milk? It bloody hurts anyway!

Is your nipple or areola bruised? Either way I would say it is something to do with the latch. Maybe the best time to tackle this is before he gets hungry, that way he may not suck so frantically?

I remember DD2 sucking so hard and refusing to let go to the extent that I felt slightly panicked! Round about the 2 week mark was when my nips felt most sore. No real advice I'm afraid, hope it gets easier for you soon.

My ds2 had blisters on his top and bottom lips from about a week old to six. He grew at a heck of a pace!

ILikeToMoveIt -it is both the nipple and areola that are bruised. He is already feeding at least every 2 hours but he does seem to suck harder when my boobs feel emptier.
