I've just had the 3rd leak from one. Fucking things. DD has got a cold and refusing to bf tonight for the second time today so got some out of the freezer and stuck it in hot water and it fucking leaked. Fuckers. That's the third time. What a fucking waste

i just fucked up too... put bottle in jug of hot water, didnt put lid on bottle, bottle fell sideways - EBM and hot water dont mix!

Not happy... was very proud of my 2.5oz!

5goldrings4MONKEYBIRDs · 17/12/2007 20:32

double bummer...

And losing all that hard earned magic juice!

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 17/12/2007 20:35

I once left the freezer door open... [sob]

The Avent bags always leaked when I used them. I used to defrost into a bottle instead.

ElfPolarBear · 17/12/2007 20:37

oh no
i use the boots own ones, have been fine

TheBlonde · 17/12/2007 20:40

Call them and complain - maybe you got a duff batch

ChirpyGrinch · 17/12/2007 20:41

Always, ALWAYS defrost EBM in another freezer bag, just a bog standard ziplock tesco one will do, but it meant if it did leak I could quickly salvage the slush into a bottle without losing it all.

And only defrost until the milk is frozen in lumps small enought to go through a wide neck bottle, then put the top on a carry on with that.
I lost too many oz's before DH discovered this!

AwayInAMunker · 17/12/2007 20:43

Complain to them. I did - the first time they sent me a box full of stuff and the boss emailed me to apologise, the second time it happened, I got some replacement bags.

It's because they don't use plasticisers or somesuch in them - they're more brittle. But they don't leach chemicals into the milk. Or something. [probably been had by marketing spiel]

TheOldestCat · 17/12/2007 20:45

Agree with ElfPolarBear - Lansinoh failed me one time too many, so I use Boots (no leaks so far!).

WewishyouaBUMPERLICIOUS · 17/12/2007 20:45

I will know for the rest of the batch, thanks chipy.

Jarm it's gutting isn't it? I've dropped the pump out of the fridge and cried!

have drafted an email, but it's a bit disjointed in my anger. Can you help me?

"Dear Sir/Madam

I am email to complain about the quality of your breast milk storage bags. One of my bags of expressed breast milk has leaked the third time since I started using your product. There appears to be a gash in the corner of the bag.

I am furious. I am in the middle of a breastfeeding crisis, my daughter is refusing to feed as she has a cold so in order to ensure that she was fed tonight I took out a bag of expressed milk in order to feed her from a bottle. But because the bag leaked she had to wait causing considerable distress. Not only that but I have now wasted 6oz of breast milk. Do you understand how much effort that takes me to physically produce and then express? And this is the third time it has happened. I do not use these products for fun or luxury, I am trying to feed my 5 month old baby.

I will not purchase any further Lansinoh products, and I shall ensure my friends are aware of their poor quality. I am most disappointed.

Yours

xxxxx"

Right off to have a calming bath...would appreciate any comments.

i always defrost them in a sterile container, the lansinoh ones ALWAYS leak.

WewishyouaBUMPERLICIOUS · 17/12/2007 20:47

Hunker I'm sure there is a good reason such as you said but it's no good if the bloody product doesn't work! They should reinforce them.

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 17/12/2007 20:55

sorry bumper for your DDs BF woes and for yet another leaky bag . I've got some Boots ones you can have if you like as I've stopped expressing, or if I do I save it in the Avent disposable but reusable little pots.

Ping me your addy and I'll send them out to you

On your e-mail, should it read "has leaked for the third time" ?

AwayInAMunker · 17/12/2007 20:57

I used them for both boys and had two leaks out of hundreds and hundreds of bags - I think you've been unlucky, but I appreciate and empathise with the hideous loss that is wasted ebm.

WewishyouaBUMPERLICIOUS · 17/12/2007 22:04

Thanks daisy, I'll email you tomorrow. Off to bed in a mo, was up at 2pm last night for about 3 hours (hence the irrational anger .

ahh bumper i feel your pain
brings a whole new meaning to crying over spilt milk doesnt it

i also second, or should that be 3rd or 4th the reccomendation for boots bm bags they are excellent
bit pricey though about 7.99 for 40

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 17/12/2007 22:15

i have wept buckets over a many a toppled breastpump

chipmonkey · 17/12/2007 23:06

Oh, yes Paula! I remember pumping in work and spilling 100ml!!! Was so gutted. I did have another 80ml as I was using a double pump but was so annoyed that I had lost the yield from the more productive breast!
I do sound like a dairy cow, don't I?

iMustBeMad · 17/12/2007 23:19

I had exactly this happen
complained to them
they sent me enough bags to double-bag what I had frozen, and another box, and a box of breast pads
I posted on here to warn others too, and have always double bagged it since then!

tastychristmaspud · 17/12/2007 23:37

how much do these bags cost ?

chipmonkey · 19/12/2007 20:28

In Ireland they are 8 Euro for 25 bags. Feel unable to translate into Sterling at the moment due to pregnancy brain!

WewishyouaBUMPERLICIOUS · 19/12/2007 20:59

Mine were a fiver for 25. No reply from Lansinoh yet re my email...

OP posts:
systemsaddict · 19/12/2007 21:11

I got a roll of Playtex BM bags on recommendation of breastfeeding counsellor and they ALL leaked!! then switched to Boots own and never ever had a problem, will def. stick with them this time round.

chipmonkey · 19/12/2007 21:37

I don't think those Playtex ones are good for storage anyway, their main feature is that they are disposable, not that they are strong!

tastychristmaspud · 20/12/2007 09:12

bumper the same thing happened to a friend of mine and she didn't even get a reply to her complaint

WewishyouaBUMPERLICIOUS · 21/12/2007 13:27

Lansinoh have replied to my complaint, i the spirit of balance I am pasting it here. It's a very nice reply actually, to my very emotive end of my tether email!

HI bumperlicious

I am so sorry that you have had such a terrible experience with our Milk Storage Bags. I can only imagine how frustrating and disappointing this must have been for you. This company was founded over 20 years ago by a breastfeeding mother for the sole purpose of supporting breastfeeding and I am so sorry that one of our products has not only failed to make things easier for you but has created quite the opposite. It takes an enormous commitment to breastfeed, even more of a commitment to provide breastmilk in your absence. To know that a product of ours has challenged you even further and pushed you to use formula is a terrible thing for you and for all of us here at Lansinoh.

I would like to try and explain what might be the problem: Our biggest challenge is to make a bag that is strong enough while using a completely safe plastic. There are many types of plastic, most of which would be more pliable and more durable. Unfortunately, this plastic has components in it (called plastisers) that could leach through into the milk. Only when using virgin plastic (which we do) can we be assured that the milk can be stored safely with no possibility of an undesired element being released from the plastic. Virgin plastic is more rigid and when the milk freezes, it places more stress on the plastic. The development of a breastmilk storage bag has been a long and costly project for us, but we are determined to deliver a quality bag made of virgin plastic.

I would like to try and help you salvage any milk you may still have frozen - I can send you down two more boxes of our Milk Storage Bags for you to double bag them, please let me know if this would help and I will get them down to you as soon as possible.

Again, I am so sorry for everything you have been through with our milk storage bags and I do hope you never experience this again with one of our products. I can assure you we are taking this matter up with our supplier.

Kind regards

XXXXXx
