11-week old feeding every 2 hours during the day- is this normal?

...because the HV ( I know, I know!) said she should be going 3-4 hours by now...

ROFL - it's a growth spurt, it'll past. Your HV is mad

Keep on doing what you are doing, it's the right thing (I'm assuming you are breastfeeding right?

berolina · 13/12/2007 17:21

normal normal normal. 3-4 hours at 11 weeks?

MarsyChristmas · 13/12/2007 17:22

Growth spurt. Be over soon!

MerryPIFFLEmas · 13/12/2007 17:22

she needs to coem and talk to my 9 mth old then LOL

seeker · 13/12/2007 17:22

Absolutely it's normal - you're actually quite lucky it's only every 2 hours (I know you don't feel lucky.......!)

Ignore your HV - she is so very wrong!

purpleturtle · 13/12/2007 17:22

Quite normal.

bohemianbint · 13/12/2007 17:26

What everyone else says! Always used to shock me every time DS went through a spurt. Oh, and prior warning, this will happen every few months! Just make yourself comfy and enjoy sitting down with your feet up.

ShowOfHands · 13/12/2007 17:27

After she's had a chat with Piffle's 9 month old, she can come and see my 7 month old. She feeds when she pleases and it pleases her to feed often.

Be led by your baby and nobody else.

pendulum · 13/12/2007 17:27

thanks! yes, b'feeding. I don't mind too much, just that she's quite colicky and i wondered if she is 'snacking' too much and missing out on the hindmilk.

piffle- how often does your DC feed? (gave up at 8 weeks with DD1 so no experience beyond that point!)

send your HV over here and she can have it out with my nearly 6mo who is feeding every 2 hours again during the day. We did have a period where it was every 3 hours but never 4. And she's ffed and being weaned both of which are of course the answer to everything

berolina · 13/12/2007 17:30

The hindmilk thing is a bit of a red herring IIRC - do a search for tiktok's posts on the subject.

ShowOfHands · 13/12/2007 17:31

Pendulum, that old fore/hind milk thing is a bit misleading. See here.

My 7 month old feeds fairly frequently. Sometimes (often!) every 2 hours, rarely goes 4 hours even at night.

Elasticwoman · 13/12/2007 17:49

HV once told me off because my baby actually went too long between feeds on one occasion. What did she expect me to do - set an alarm and wake him up? He was a big baby too so not much chance of wasting away. I agree with every one else - 2 hours between feeds is normal and who's watching the clock anyway?

pendulum · 13/12/2007 17:51

Thanks for the link SOH- I love Kellymom.

btw my SIL's HV just told her the same thing (3-4 hours)- and her DS is 4 weeks old!

Pickie · 13/12/2007 18:11

be glad it is during the day, DS did this for 4 months during the night, every 1.5-2 hrs. He is still grazzer

Wouldnt worry about it not being textbook

NotEvenHopingForAWhiteXmas · 13/12/2007 20:48

We've been home since 5.15 and my 9 mo has Bfed 4 times

(what's that 2.5 hours?)

MerryPIFFLEmas · 13/12/2007 21:21

Every 2 hrs is normal
sometiems now he is on solids he can go longer but on average it's 2 hrs

See last night
5pm 7pm 8pm 9.30pm 12.10am 12.50am
the slept til 7.20

Ha first time ever!
6 feeds in 6 hrs...
ho hum

During the day he was exactly 2 hrly until 7 mths.
only since submitting to porridge or weetabix for brekkie has that changed to 3 hrs at a push.
As this is my 3rd bf child, I can also tell you he has been the easiest...

MerryPIFFLEmas · 13/12/2007 21:26

FWIW I know plenty of FF babies in our baby group (I'm the only bf mother actually) and none of their babies go 3 hrs daytime yet and none have ever gone thru the night
Ha my bf is the first to go longer than 6 hrs...

ChasingSquirrelsUpTheXmasTree · 13/12/2007 21:29

perfectly normal, ds2 was still every 2 hours (or even more frequent tbh) at 6mo, never mind 11 weeks.

Elasticwoman · 13/12/2007 21:32

BTW my mother was advised by the dr to feed my brother every 2 hours, back in 1958. When he was born he was post-mature, 3 weeks late (wouldn't be allowed now would it?) and according to my mum, looked like "a skinned rabbit". Guess the placenta was failing.

FairyMum · 13/12/2007 21:36

DS fed every 2 hours 24/7 until he was 6 months.

lazycat · 15/12/2007 18:33

dd is feeding nearly every hour during the day, and she's 8 weeks old.

moondog · 15/12/2007 18:34

Even the most experience and professional HV has no idea what youtr baby should be doing. Only he knows that.

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 15/12/2007 18:35

My girls fed every hour or two hours sometimes at this age, it's hard isn't it, but it gets better!
