MiL bottle fed baby lying down

My baby slept over at her granny’s last night for the first time (my in laws). She is 19 weeks old. When I asked how the night went my MiL said during the night feed she gave baby 3/4 of the bottle in her arms and then lay her down and gave her the last 1/4 lying in the cot. Is this safe or normal? I’ve never heard of anyone doing this before? When I BF I did feed lying down but baby was sideways whereas last night she was flat on her back.

A baby should always be held when having a bottle.

Did she sit and hold the bottle, watching the baby the whole time? If so I can’t see it would be a problem. However, you are mum so if you would rather she held DD the whole time, you should deffo let your MIL know

No it’s not safe. It would be like you drinking lying down. Lots do it though.

Thanks all - she said it was just the last of the bottle, but the way she mentioned it casually made me think it was a common thing! Not something I’ve come across myself and I don’t feel that comfortable with it
