Oh what new and exquisite hell is this? (blocked duct every time I ovulate)

I was promised that while I was still breastfeeding 2 hourly day and night that my periods would not return. I was missold on this point I'm afraid. I am on my 4th cycle and like clockwork, the night before I ovulate I start to develop a blocked duct. Last month I couldn't clear it and ended up with full blown mastitis.

So... are the two related because it's awfully conincidental if they aren't. I know a 'blocked duct' isn't usually that and it's more likely a 'compressed duct'. Can hormone changes at ovulation cause this? What can I do? I'm so desperate to not have another blocked duct that I'm considering getting pregnant again (which in theory would be fine, but would cause its own bf problems presumably). I really, really do not want to go back on the pill which I suspect might be the only solution

After a bumpy beginning I had started to enjoy breastfeeding but three days a month of trying to clear a blocked duct and it's driving me bananas.

My GP says I should stop breastfeeding altogether as my milk has no nutritional value any more (dd is 7 months) and I'm only doing it for my benefit. He is, however, a silly little man and I am determined to continue. How do I make it easier oh wise MNers?

And I can spell coincidental. Sometimes.

Are your boobs bigger? Too tight bra maybe?

Do they get bigger when you ovulate? Might that be it. I'm going to measure...

I have no idea but the only time I got a blocked duct was when dd2 was dropping feeds and my bra got too tight.

Ouch!

Good luck dear.

Why is it that getting pg again seems like a good answer to most things? I want to get rid of periods again

Hope someone has some answers!
