About to have a breakdown

I'm crying with frustration as I write this
DS had many problems feeding at the start. We finally settled him on Hipp formula at 3 months. There's been a few hiccups along since then like he would only drink the ready made stuff for a few days but then went back to powdered and wouldn't drink the ready made. He'd have several days where he didn't drink as much as he usually would and then go back to normal again etc etc. The past couple of days he's been drinking a few oz and then he would squirm and grunt and turn his head away. No chance of him taking any more. Yesterday he drank 18 oz by bed time so I dream fed him and he drank 6oz with no issues whatsoever which tells me it may be psychological?? This morning after 10 hours since his dream feed he's had 2oz... I just don't know what to do. I'm seriously stressing that I'm doing something wrong. I know that babies (like us) have days where they don't drink/eat much but I can't help but think this is something more than just not being hungry.
I'm wondering whether starting weaning will help get more nutrients in but I'm worried that's going to make the issue worse. I don't even know what to do anymore but it's exhausting me

That does sound stressful. If you're thinking of weaning, how old is he?

How much has he had now @emetophobe12

emetophobe12 · 21/09/2021 16:14

@DominicRaabsTravelAgent he's had 14 so far.
2oz this am. Then another 3 about an hour and half later. Then 3 hours later magically drank 6oz. And now he's just drank 3oz again. Tried him with water and he drank an oz and would have kept going if I let him. I just don't get it. Feel like such a failure and feel so guilty because of the things that I'm thinking when I get frustrated 😢

Ok so he's had 14floz. How old is he and how much does he weigh?

emetophobe12 · 21/09/2021 16:21

@DominicRaabsTravelAgent he was 23 weeks yesterday (5.5 months ish). He's getting weighed on Thursday. There were staffing issues at the clinic so hasn't been weighed for 2 months

At 23 weeks it wouldn't be outrageous if you did wean him but I'd want to know why he wasn't having his milk. You have to try to offer high calorie, nutritious foods though.

Is he having a daily vitamin?

Has he got any other symptoms of CMPA?

emetophobe12 · 21/09/2021 16:59

@DominicRaabsTravelAgent I think I'm going to try aptamil. Maybe he's just got bored of hipp. Can only give it a go and there's nothing to lose I suppose. He's not having a daily vitamin at the moment. Health visitor said to give it to him when/if he drinks less than 500ml (which he hasn't done yet)
I don't think he has any other symptoms of CMPA. As soon as you take the bottle away he goes back to normal. No other issues in his daily life whatsoever. I wonder whether he's a very fussy baby
