DS2 is 3 weeks and I've been bf'g but want to go to bottle feeding - I have my reasons so please please no guilt trips please - have been thru them all myself already. Just want some advice on how to do the change over without my breasts exploding with milk etc. How long will it take also?

hiya, havent got much time but have done this recently with my 14 week dd. IMHO do it gradually, replacing only one feed at a time with formula and build up from that. may take a couple of weeks but otherwise its agony on the boobs.

its getting less and less but I let her have a sneaky breast feed when it gets too bad. is working for me anyway!

good luck, and trust your instincts xx

elbarto, thanks for that, the only prob is as I'm currently feeding on demand, do I just say, give a bottle at lunch time and then wait till he's hungry and then give him breast, building up to the six bottle feeds a day that is suggested on the formula packet? Do I give top up breast feeds in between if he still cries for more?

hmm, i see what you mean. one of the reasons i started dd on the bottle was because of endless demand feeding.

i started off giving her a bottle early evening when she was hungriest and my milk supply was at its lowest, and luckily she took to a bottle straight off (probably starving poor thing!)she was about the same age as your ds at the time.

ultimately you know your baby better than anyone else and what is right for him, to be quite honest I think what you suggested sounds just right! x
