Two issues: Low supply in evening and watery milk in morning...

...Are these things both normal? In the evening baby doesn't seem to swallow much and I have tried expressing from morning when I am full to give her in evening which was ok but now she has stopped taking bottle I can't do this anymore. Do others have same problem?

Also have noticed that morning milk is so watery!

Baby gaining weight well so guess it cannot be too problematic...

Edie - not sure how old your baby is, but what you say is absolutely normal.

Most women feel fuller in the mornings, and the fullness of the breast is related to the amount of water in the breastmilk - the fuller the breast the higher the proportion of water, and vice versa.

What women perceive as 'low supply' in the evening is usually based on 2 very normal things: a baby who feeds on and off for several hours, and breasts that feel softer. The breasts are less full (not 'empty', though) as the baby is removing milk very often, but the milk is proportionately less watery.

Your baby is thriving. You do not have a problem

is this the morning milk that you're expressing? it an seem strange to look at your breastmilk if you haven't seen it or anyone else's before. it does look watery and thin. there maybe just a layer of 'fatty' milk at the top. and the milk may look slightly blue ish. it's all ok. it just doesn't look much like cow's milk, or formula

Excellent advice, thanks. TT-my baby is 11 weeks old. Above average weight and height so yes she is thriving.

Ruddy-Yes it did seem strange looking at my milk in the morning-slightly blue as you say.

Thanks both of you-really reassuring
