My BF baby sleeps through the night - is that ok?

I keep reading that it is rare for a BF baby to sleep through the night. My LO is going from about 11ish to 6. Great for me but is he ok for food? I am guessing he would wake up if he was hungry. He feeds more at night so is that keeping him going? Last night he went to sleep about 11 and started to stir at about half six. I jumped up and got my boobs ready (they are bandaged up between feeds as they are healing from cracks) He didn't even seem distressed when he got up - just sleepy and a bit grumpy.

Forgot to say that he is 6 weeks old.

Mine DD did that from 6 weeks, DS did it from 12 days old!
H/Visitor didn't believe I was BFing! The quality of the last feed must be sufficient for them. I never fed my LOs in the night and they're strapping kids now.
Just be grateful and don't tell too many people or you may get lynched!

It's fine, he would wake up if hungry as long as he is well and gaining weight steadily, just enjoy!

TrinityRhino · 02/12/2007 10:23

its totally fine
if he wanted feeding he would wake for it

and I'm not at all lynchingly jealous....honestly not a jot.....no really I'm not

out of interest how much does your lo weigh?

EdieMcredie · 02/12/2007 10:37

My baby is 11 weeks and has slept through since about 2 weeks old. She goes to bed at 10.30 and wakes up anything from about 7 to 8.30 in morning. It's fine

I am not sure of his weight right now as the HV didn't weigh him last week. He was fast asleep and she didn't want to wake him. She wasn't worried about his weight gain so far though.

OMG - now you didn't mention that one! ha ha at least you got a break there... last night I fed at 11, 2.45, 4.30 and then DS grunted and thrashed till 6... grrr

He's a noisy wee critter mind you and wakes me up during the night squeaking and making other strange sounds. He doesn't wake himself up though - just me! I used to jump up and whip the boobs out thinking he wanted fed only for me to spend the next half hour watching him wriggle around and eventually go back to sleep. I don't think I would be coping at all right now if I wasn't getting some rest though.

Also he doesn't do it every night but he is generally a good sleeper and I am so, so thankful!

yes mine all slept for long stretches at night from birth, the MW/HV said I should wake them but I never did at night, and one of them slept for 12 hours straight within the first week and they are all healthy strapping girls now! Enjoy it! Mine were all big birth weight babies btw which I think really helped (and I woke them during the day to ensure plenty of day time feeds)
