im only coming up for 6 months and i think im planing on carrying on
esp as dd goes through quite a few changes at 6 months ie going in her only room, starting food etc be nice for her to still have a mummys milk cuddle

just wondered who has bf for the longest and how far you made it ?

I bf dd2 for 19 months. I stopped bfing to start trying for another baby, but I wish I had carried on for longer. There are many mumsnetters who have bf for far longer then me.

geekgirl · 25/11/2007 15:38

I bf dd1 until she was 3.5 years and ds until he was 3, there are others here who have fed for longer though

my mw said she was still feeding her dd during the first few months of reception.

ProjectTartanArmyIcarus · 25/11/2007 15:55

dd1 is erm3.6 dd2 is 15 months.

I wonder who has fed for the longest period ...

paulaplumpbottom · 25/11/2007 15:57

I only made it 18 months

madness · 25/11/2007 16:01

well, started 7 y ago, had a 2 months break when 7mo pg, then another 2/3mo break when pg again..

geekgirl · 25/11/2007 16:13

ah, we're doing 'breastfed the longest, even if spanning over several children'?

I started when dd1 was born, tandem fed dd1 & dd2, had a break just before I got pregnant with ds and then fed ds until he was 3, so that's 7.5 years with a break of 10 months.

AMerryScot · 25/11/2007 16:14

I breastfed DD2 until around her fourth birthday - that included tandem feeding for 15 months.

I'm waiting for the pitchforks

Misdee · 25/11/2007 16:19

lol ggirl.

well i didnt do it continously, so you win.

i did breastfeed dd3 untill she was about 26months.

i started with the plan of getting to 6months. then a year, and i did considering getting her off the breast at about 18months, but it never really happened. she weaned at 26months due to me trying to get her to sleep through the night. she was in my room until then.

splishsplosh · 25/11/2007 16:24

Misdee, that sounds like my plan - now dd is 22 months, and the way she loves it i cannot imagine how I'm ever going to stop! I think she'd have bm over food any day, and would snack on it endlessly given half a chance. I swear she's an addict!

It's great for comforting though, and for getting her in a sleepy mood at night, and also for first thing in the morning, when I take her into my bed and close my eyes for another 15-20 minutes with any luck, while she takes her fix to get her ready for the day ahead

I did 30 mths with one and 11 with the other. They stopped themselves.
Well done Baby. It is so easy and handy as well as being the best thing for them.

A quick suck calms them down like nothing else I found. Was a lifesaver on an 18 hour flight once.I think everyone else was very grateful too.

belgo · 25/11/2007 16:28

I started with a plan of six weeks minimum. That turned into 3 months; then four months, then six months, then I just about made the year with dd1. I stopped because I was pregnant and too tired to bf any longer.

I got to 19 months with dd2. If I have a third baby (hopefully), I plan on bfing for at least 2 years.
