Help with breastfeeding-baby seems to hate it!

Hi looking for any advice or tips please. My son is 11 weeks old and I'm having a few issues with breastfeeding- mainly that he often gets very upset at the sight of my boob, particularly in the day. I can just about get him to feed every 3 hours during the day (although offer more) and he'll generally only feed for a few minutes on one side. If I offer and he doesn't want it he gets really upset, screams, scratches etc.

At night time, I don't know if it's because he's more relaxed or something (?) he'll often do longer feeds every 2 hours, and he's usually calmer.

He doesn't seem to get any comfort from feeding, which is hard because it worked so well to soothe my first baby. The feeds are making us both so stressed out! I've tried feeding him lying down in the day but didn't make any difference, can't really do a dark quiet room at every feed as I've got a 2 yr old as well, but not sure it would help anyway.

I should add he's a pretty easy baby in general, but is extremely sicky and windy. Constantly farting and puking. Naps well in the sling but obviously we're not getting a huge amount of sleep at night, although he does go down fairly well in between night feeds. I think I have a fast letdown too.

I'm sorry, I have no good advice but didnt want to read and run. Do you have a local breastfeeding group that might be able to help?

You have my full sympathy my 2nd wouldn't feed at all at 4 months and also couldn't do the quiet dark room thing as had a toddler. I never really solved it so don't have good advice.

Hopefully someone with more experience will come along but perhaps he is getting enough at night and doesn't need so much during the day? Is he still having plenty of wet nappies? How is his weight? Perhaps if he fusses you don't have to try so hard but I'd hate to give bad advice.

Hi,
I can’t offer an answers but I’m sure ‘La Leche league’ could suggest a few things. You can Google them and they have a helpline.
Sometimes simple adjustments can make a huge difference, that’s my experience anyway but that was with the help of an amazing midwife who helped me change my feeding position and baby’s latch. If you have a fast let down you can alter your feeding position to slow it down a little ... !
If you can speak to you health visitor they may direct you to a local breastfeeding support group or peer support?

My son really fussed at the boob in the day but I had low supply... it was very stressful so I send sympathies! Well done for persisting!! Hope you can get some answers BrewCakeFlowers

Thank you I'll definitely give them a ring.

Lots of wet nappies, weight gain is fine, I think, but he's not been weighed properly in weeks as all the children's centres are still closed because of covid. I tried to weigh him at home but might not be that accurate.

Yep it's a lot harder when there's a toddler about and you can't concentrate on feeding (and watching Netflix) all day!
