Restarting breastfeeding?

I breastfed for 3 years and stopped 1 year ago. My breasts have been uneven ever since. I spoke to the GP who promised they’d go back to normal but they haven’t. I cry a lot because they’re visibly uneven and I can’t afford plastic surgery.

My friend suggested could I start my milk production again and pump exclusively on the smaller breast to try to even up the size? Is that a mad idea?

(sorry if TMI) I gave it a go and I produced clear greasy liquid from both nipples, the larger breast had what looked like thick milk mixed in. So maybe that breast hasn’t got rid of its milk producing glands and that’s why it hasn’t gone back to normal size?

Is it worrying that my nipples are still producing a whole year later? Do you think I could restart milk production and would that even up my breasts??

It is completely unacceptable to compared yourself to a woman who has lost a breast due to cancer. I recognise you are desperate but you need to stop this now.

From a quick review of the NHS website, I can see there are guidelines for breast reduction to be covered for psychological distress, such as low self-esteem or depression. I suggest to review the guidelines and seek further advise from the CCG

You need to keep in mind if you do not meet the requirements for medical grounds for psychological distress, you may need to save and pay for yourself - or invest in therapy to come to terms with your new body.

@TuesdayRuby did these people have them done on the NHS?

OP, like most pps I do sympathise with your situation, and do think that breastfeeding breasts changes isn't the same as breast cancer. There's really no comparing here. However, how about going to see a private gp, explain how mentally distressing it is for your, get them to make a referral to a plastic surgeon? Failing that, get them to write a letter to your gp, maybe that'll make them move into action.

PS: referral to an NHS surgeon.
