Stopped feeding, pain in one boob....

I stopped feeding my dd (after 7 months) about 2 weeks ago. I had gradually cut down on feeds so was not expecting to have such a painful boob. It is a bit engorged (v slightly)and hurts if anything presses against it (such as when I am carrying my dd). It was the side my dd preferred. Will it settle down on its own or should I go the drs?

Not sure but bunping for you i have similar prob but just keep expresing from one side occasionally, still feeding from other side, had to stop one one side as was too sore...

I am still bfing but had similar problem when cutting down feeds. For me it went away after a day or 2. If it is very painful you could try expressing a very little just to take the edge off, otherwise it will probably go away on its own.

Oh just realised this was 2 weeks ago - has it been hurting for 2 weeks? No experience of that I'm afraid, would think about seeing gp or hv?

DandD,

sounds like you could have a blocked duct or mastitis - is there a red patch? Do you have a temp/flu like symptoms?

TBH I would go to your GP as they could give you ABS if it is mastitis. Also take Ibruprofen as it's anti-imflamatory and try hot compresses whre it hurts. If you get diagnosed with either blocked duct or mastitis then do a search on here for lots of tips.

Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

Also well done you for bfing until 7 months -pat yourself on the back!.

Yes - well done - It does sound like a blocked duct or mastitis. Bloody painful - keep expressing - get antibiotics - it'll go away eally soon!

Thx your advice ladies. I did express a little and it seemed to ease so I think I had a bit of blockage. So I did a bit each night in the shower and now all fine! Phew! And thx for congratulating me on getting to 7 months - I am one of the lucky ones who BF easily. Must go - got bottles to make up -another reason I kept going for that long - lol!
