Hi all

Posted earlier but thought I'd try again.

Have had almost (not mastitis touch wood) every form of soreness in BF (boo hoo) but managed to get over them all. Now have one excruciatingly sore spot on left nipple. I don't know if it's thrush- I've had that too with a previous baby and this doesn't feel like that - the pain is all on the nipple, and just in one tiny place. I can't see any noticeable damage though...

It started when I had a blocked duct and am now wondering is it directly connected to that or have we somehow compromised the latch on that side (perhaps DS didn't like it so much when blocked?)

Anyone got any ideas what might be causing it and what I should do? Have been trying to make sure latch is good but so far not making any difference...

Thanks

Ouch. Sympathy, Monkeybird and hang on in there.

Can't say what might be causing it but recommend you speak to a bf counsellor and in the meantime stuff your bra with raw cabbage leaves.

Does it hurt if you hand express?

hollyhobbie · 08/11/2007 21:18

oh, I was going to suggest thrush, but it doesn't sound like it.
I had thrush for AGES (ouch ouch), only when Dr told me DS oral thrush did the penny drop.
No white spots in your DS's mouth?

moocowme · 08/11/2007 21:19

i was recomended to stuff my bra with savoy cabages as well. they have some sort of pain releif chemical in them.

not got around to trying it yet so no idea if it works.

Elasticwoman · 08/11/2007 21:20

I meant white cabbage rather than savoy.

moocowme · 08/11/2007 21:23

hm intersting, i was told savoy cabage.

laura032004 · 08/11/2007 21:35

My mum said savoy, which worked a treat. MW told me it should be white, and savoy would have no effect

Can I just recommend silverettes for the pain. I'll do a search in a minute and link you to a thread that I started a while ago. I had a very painful crack, and they worked fantastically. I've used them a couple of times since, when DS2 has a marathon feeding night, and they help within hours. Can't recommend them highly enough!

cabbage is for engorgement.

monkeybird have you tried changing position to see what happens? are you sure duct really is unblocked? i had such wild success getting rid of block using a comb in teh shower, won't do you any harm to try.
