How distracted can a baby actually be during feeds?

My LO will quite literally pop off every few seconds just to stare at me or something in the room. Sometimes she won't even fully latch on before she turns her head again to see if something has happened around her! Can a baby really be this distracted??? LO is 6 months but this has been happening for a while. She used to be a 40 min on the dot feeder and now its stop start stop start stop start for aaaages. Please advise!

Oh yes they can be very, very distracted. I found my DD was better if she had something to fiddle with like my earlobe, hair or necklace.

You could try some breast compressions when she is latched too as the extra milk might help to hold her attention and hopefully quicken up the feed

DS was bottle fed so not quite the same but he was pretty distracted. I bought a wee feeding necklace which seemed to focus all his interest.

Yup! I used to feed them under a muslin so they could concentrate.

Mine used to be a right little gourmand, a few draws and then off again, second I swear drank like she was downing pints, very different experience Grin

Are you feeding on demand or on a rough schedule?

Yes they can be ridiculous for distractions but it might also be that she isn’t quite hungry enough to focus x

Yes, they can get very easily distracted! My son would get so taken in by what was going on around us that he sometimes refused to feed even though he was very hungry (cue meltdowns shortly after...).

Find the most sterile, boring place to feed whenever possible! Smile

Baby ds is almost 4 months and he's started this. His favourite thing is to stop every 30 seconds just to smile or coo at me. Even more annoying when he pulls off just after my let down has started to have a look around the room then we both get soaked.
It's annoying and adorable in equal measures.

Oh god yeah mine used to really annoy me with doing this because the most intense sensation is him matching them I’m fine so relatching sooooo many times was hell.

Dark room feeding lying down did it for us.
