Does anyone know of any breastfeeding cafes/support groups/counsellors in Wathamstow?

I gave birth out of the borough so I'm not in the loop about what's on offer locally and I could really do with some support.

I don't know much about Walthamstow, but I have got a list of groups in Hackney. The best one I have been to is actually in Bethnal Green at the health centre on Florida Street (1-3pm Weds) but there must be something closer to you.

Otherwise if you're having specific problems you can post and ask some of the many experts on here. Or phone La Leche (0845 120 2918) or ABM (0870 401 7711).

Thanks. Bethnal Green would be a train ride for me which might be do-able.

Therea are loads in East London, but closer in than you - the BFN run them. Their webpage used to have lots of details of drop ins, but they seem not to be listing them any more. You can call the BFN on 0844 412 4664. Actually, I think the NCT may have supporters out there - call 0870 444 8708 for their info.

(Together with the two groups listed by ketchupkisses, that's all four breastfeeding support groups for the UK.)

If you happen to get details of anyone who wants to charge you for breastfeeding support, please do not use them - private bf support people always seem to be crap.

oh miss bumpy i was just about to post on your other thread. i'm in forest gate and a counsellor from BFN visited me twice. she lives in leytonstone. this was a couple of years ago but i shoudl think she's still there. let me know how you get on.

TheBlonde · 07/11/2007 13:11

You could also call your HV - they should have a list

missbumpy not really expecting to see you at this time, but hope you are doing ok. please post update.

helllloooo missbumpy. how is it going today?

missbumpy · 08/11/2007 11:30

Thanks everyone. DD seems to be feeding more all of a sudden (I've heard it's normal to have a growth/appetite spurt at 3 weeks) and my boobs are feeling really sore. They've suddenly got much bigger and feel engorged again. I don't know what's going on. Maybe my milk supply's increasing or something ?
Anyway, I've been trying to alternate between shields and no shields. I can manage without the shields much better on one breast than on the other. There are no signs of a cracked nipple or infection or anything so I'm not sure why it hurts.
Fishie, do you have the number of the lady in Leyton?

hi missbumpy. good you don't have cracks but must sort pain out. probably small different in positioning will do it.

i do have her home number somewhere but better not put it here! see here for info on how the supporterline works. call from a landline and with any luck you should get her. or someone else local.

I know someone in Walthamstow who I think runs a LLL drop-in. If you'd like her details, please email me at personalnotbusiness at gmail dot com

missbumpy · 08/11/2007 20:57

Thanks fishie and effie. I'll get in touch next time I'm on email and get your Walthamstow LLL contact.
