DD saying goodbye to breastfeeding...

DD2 (11 months) didnt want a breastfeed this morning. This was her last feed as we have gradually been reducing them. She lay down next to me and sucked her thumb. I tried a few times and she wasnt bothered. After about half an hour of snuggling double we went downstairs and DH gave her some milk from a cup. She had 4oz (about 4 x anything she has ever had before) and then had some more snuggles from me.

It had been my plan to keep going until 12 months but I genuinely feel this is her way of saying she isnt bothered any more. She has been reducing the time of feeds, perhaps my supply had reduced now I am down to one feed.

I feel strangely sad, happy at the same time. It was as if she was saying 'It's ok Mummy, I still love you very much!'

she will still want all that cuddle time dont worry!!!! my little ones were both happily feeding until 12mths and fed 3x a day till then, when they got to one i said that was enough for me, get back to being 'just mummy' instead of milk too, and they were both happy enough to just have cuddles and a cup of milk!!! dd now 18mths still just sits on my knee cuddleing far the periods when she used to have breastmilk!!! and ds very nearly 3 still sits and cuddles!!

its sad that they are getting independance without you, but nice to be able to have your boobs back , and not have to be on demand at her convenience!!

I know. I feel like this is much easier than first time around (although I went to 8 months then) and DD was just desperate for her milk from a cup as opposed to DD2 who is just relaxed enough to wait for it.

mine was a little harder 2nd time round, ds was simple, he'd just have breastmilk when i was ready to give it him from around 8mths but had a morning, pre-nap, and bedtime feed still until 12mths, but dd wanted it when SHE decided, sometimes she was still feeding 5/6/7 times a day just before i stopped!!! but the transition was ok....she was ill about a week after the transition and slept in our bed, i did wake up to her pulling my boobs out of my pj top to get a feed!!!- was funny though!!
