thread title says it all really ... dd is 4 weeks old, and I have the cold ... caught it off ds ... what can I take as I have horrendous sinus pain - I'm assuming that antihistamines are a no-no as they'll dry my milk up ...

Ideas?

I don't know if you can take neurofen sinus, but it bloomin works.

Thanks Double top, but...

need to add that I'm allergic to aspirin and NSAIDs - I suspect the nurofen sinus is out in that case ...

Howsabout inhaling Olbas or similar over a bowl of hot water? Not intravenous, and may soothe painful tubes. I get horrendous sinus pain, even the jolt of walking hurts, so I can sympathise.

All the usual Sinus medicines and cold and flu stuff are out I am afraid because as you say they can effect your supply.

A hot bath and some olbas oil is the best thing I have tried. You can take paracetemol (unless you are allergic). If it continues see the GP, you never know he or she may have some more helpful advice

thanks doubletop & cmoc ... a bath (on my own) sounds good!

Can I put olbas oil in the bath?

As you say dt, even walking hurts ...

I reckon you can out it in the bath. Try really massaging the points either side of your nose where the pain is. That helps to relieve my symptoms.

Doubletop · 01/11/2007 16:07

put it in the bath. Doh!

jackielantern · 01/11/2007 16:24

Olbas is the best for sinus. Put some drops in a bowl of hot water, lean over, drape towel over head, inhale for as long as you can stand (if you put too much olbas in it makes your eyes water).

If you do this three of four times a day eventually you start blowing your nose for england!

Have had a bath with some olbas oil ... and the pharmacist gave me some menthol crystals ... they are the business!

Am massaging the painful bits too, but that hurts a lot, so I may be a wuss, and wimp out of that!

Thanks for the suggestions ... should I wash my boobs before feeding dd tonight (to wash off the olbas oil)?
