Breastfeeding 3 weeks old baby

Hey guys,

How often did you feed your 3 weeks old baby?and how long were their feeds?

Did your baby cluster feed for hours at some point during the day?

Anyone with experience with a baby with tongue tie. When did the latching and feeding improve after getting the tongue tie snipped?

I have so many questions regarding breastfeeding as I feel so clueless sometimes. I end up feeling so guilty as I’m not sure if I’m doing it right and I don’t want to deprive my baby.

Yes I remember cluster feeding. You can call your midwife and ask for a visit from the lactation consultant.

Feed all the fucking time! At least every 3 hours from the start of feed. Would feed from 6 until 11ish on an evening and then lots and lots for hours at a time over night. This was my second baby who didn’t have tt.

Is your baby weeing and pooing and gaining weight?

Hey, I found BFing sooo hard in the early weeks. It really does get better! And now is a really tough time as there is so little support. Are you in touch with your infant feeding team? I found mine through the hospital I gave birth at and the health visitors had an IF team too. They were able to answer loads of my questions and help over video call too.
DS had a TT that took about 6 weeks to improve after the snip. If you Google 'infant sucking' exercises, those really helped him learn how to latch and suckle properly and really helped. And yes to cluster feeding, it was soo disheartening in the early weeks as I'd be like 'oh I'll just feed him and then hop on Zoom/call this friend" and then 90m later he'd still be feeding away Hmm the evenings were tough, but it really did turn a corner around 8-10 weeks. Hang in there!

Oh and I found a breastfeeding FB group really helpful and supportive and available all hours!

At 3 weeks they were feeding every 1.5 - 2 hours, for about 30-45 mins, so roughly an hour not feeding then an hour feeding.

My DS1 also used to clusterfeed 3pm-7pm, you need good boxsets or Netflix! Make sure you're all set up with drinks and snacks before you settle into it.
