Distracted during feeding

Hi all

My LO is 5 months and this past week I've really struggled to feed her. Shes on formula and She easily does 6oz 5 feeds a day so shes totalling 900ml/1000ml each day which is fine.

But this past week its becoming increasingly difficult to feed her. She wil do 160ml very easily and then she takes the bottle out for a burp and then when I try and give her the bottle again she refuses it. So I give her a break for 5 mins or so and try again. When I try again I really struggle to give her the bottle. She will move her head from side to side, any noise distracts her. She will cry. Take the bottle for a few seconds. Wail and cry and then take the bottle again. Then she will refuse. And then takes the bottle and cries. Eventually she will finish the bottle but that second stint is a big ordeal and the whole feeding process can sometimes take 45mins up to an hour. Can someone help?! Why is she doing this?!

What size teat do you have on the bottle? My little one used to get fussy then this would stop when I went up a teat size.

Shes on a size 2 teat

I have just 'fixed' this exact issue, so glad it isn't just me! I've started feeding my 5 month old DD upstairs with the curtains closed and no distractions like TV and she's drinking so much more. On times when she's a bit distracted I find keeping at it she'll take the full feed but over about 30 mins.

Which bottles are you using? I know the MAM bottles teat 3 can be from 4 months plus.

I'm using MAM bottles with a size 2 teat. Maybe I need to up it to size 3?

Out of interest, does your dd suffer with reflux?

I also had this same issue last month and dh and I now feed her on the exact same spot on the sofa on laps, cuddled in for daytime feeds. No TV on, music etc and this has really improved things. If one or other of us was feeding, we would stay out of the room until burping as we found she would see the other parent and get excited!

She doesn't suffer from the reflux symptoms so I dont think that's it. Im going to try teat 3 today and see how that pans out. Fingers crossed !

My DD does this - if I stop to burp her, she refuses to drink anymore so I just let her drink the whole bottle now 🙈

Size 3 Mam are really fast imo, so might take her a while to adjust!
