Is my 13 week old eating too little?

Hello all! Just a quick query - my 13 week old son is 11.5 pounds, and never seems to cry for food...he seems content with a dummy! Yesterday i switched to feeding him every 4 hours instead of 3, (hes formula fed)and it hasnt made a jot of difference to the amount he consumes, and now I'm worried that he's not eating enough (although he hasnt cried for food!) He currently takes 120 oz approx per feed X 5 in 24 hours = is that enough???!!! Any guidance greatly appreciated - as according to the box of formula he's way down....

i would think that was not quite enough either. is he gaining weight at all?

120 oz?? do you mean 12?? my ds was eating between about 25 and 30 oz a day at that age.

12 oz per feed

that is a huge amount of milk per feed

basically , babies do let you know when they are hungry, and have frequent growth spurts

ignore the box and look at your baby

is he happy? settled between feeds? draining his bottles? weeing and pooing easily? sleeping well?

do you mean 120mls 5 times a day? If so that is about 600mls which is about 20oz so it is a bit on the low side. The rule of thumb is around 2.5oz per lb of weight so by that calculation your lo would need around 28oz of milk per day (although some take more/less than that). That said, if your lo is happy enough between feeds, is peeing and pooing ok then he is having enough to satisfy him. He knows how much he needs and nothing you do will take him take more than that.

My dd1 was only having about 20 oz/600ml a day when she was about 19 weeks, she didn't ever cry for milk, and would only take a few ounces at a time. She was only on the 9th centile, but because she stayed roughly on that line, and did lots of pooey and wet nappies, she was fine. When we weaned her she really loved her food, and dropped her milk pretty quickly, so maybe its just a case of not particularly liking milk. As long as he seems healthy i would have thought that they just take what suits them (MyDD2 has about 35 oz at the same age - they are all different)
