Breastfeeding and alcohol

I've tried Google but there is very little guidance.
Is it safe to have a drink if I am breast feeding our 7 week old? Obviously I am not going to get hammered but would like some champagne on Christmas day.
How much, If any, is safe?
Do I need to express and Chuck it?

As long as you're sober enough to safely hold baby, go ahead. No need to dump.

You don't need to express and Chuck it, as alcohol in your breast milk is the same as your blood alcohol level.

I occasionally had a small glass of something when I was BF and it was fine.

If you think you can't stop at one small one though probably better to abstain or express beforehand for a bottle/cup feed.

Yes, you can have a drink or two. It's not an issue - you could have a glass of champagne even if you were pregnant and it's much less of an issue than when you were pregnant, because they're not sharing your blood and even quite a high blood alcohol level would be barely detectable in your milk.

Thank you all.
I can definitely stop at one @ConcernedAboutWarrington . I may not even get to the end of that considering that I've gone 10 months without touching a drop, I think that one glass could end up with me quite tiddly.

Hey OP,

My LO was 5 months old when I had my first drink while breastfeeding. I was told to feed LO first then start ur drink right after. By the time they feed again there should be minimal amount of alcohol left in ur bloodstream. Although at 5 weeks I am not sure how long between feeds ur LO is going. I was around 2-3 hours. It was completely fine though
